Conservancy for the Range of the Condor

Conservancy for the Range of the Condor The mission of the Conservancy for the Range of the Condor is to:

Acquire land ,or interests in land, (Prime Property) in and near established wild areas.

The Conservancy for the Range of the Condor (CRC) is a non-profit land trust. Its mission is to acquire critical condor habitat land by buying it, by receiving it as a gift, or by otherwise acquiring rights to such land. By “critical,” we mean land that is mostly undeveloped, is open space, and is adjacent to or near existing large tracts of open space or wilderness.

Conservancy for the Range of the Condor is pleased to announce the acquisition of 40 acres in Carmel Valley. This land is adjacent to the 260 acres in Anastasia Canyon already owned by the Conservancy, and thusly making a total land area of 300 acres.

The 40 acres lies on a ridgeline above Anastasia Creek, and is populated by a variety of deciduous and evergreen oaks, many other plant species and animals.

On the attached map, the forty acres is the inner rectangle, in blue. It is mostly steep forest, with a couple of acres on the ridgeline that are flat-ish.

The plan is to put the whole 300 acres into conservation easement, to prevent any future development of the property, no matter who the owner is. That may take a couple of years.

The Conservancy for the Range of the Condor is pleased to announce its acquisition of a 48-acre property in Carmel Valley. As you can see in the accompanying map, the property abuts Garland Ranch above the Robles Del Rio neighborhood of Carmel Valley Village.

The Range of the Condor is dedicated to acquiring or otherwise protecting habitat for animals and plants. This results--ultimately--in great benefit to humans. This property is steep and wooded, and the anticipation is that its use will not change much from its current use, that it will continue to serve as a buffer between Garland Park and the Robles del Rio neighborhood.

Purchase of this property was made possible through a generous donation. The donor wishes to remain anonymous.

The Range of the Condor is a land trust, and it currently owns about 450 acres of land in Carmel Valley and Big Sur.

Range of the Condor directors John Hain and Don Gruber pose with Monterey County Supervisor Mary Adams, and Congressman Jimmy Panetta at the the annual gathering of the very active wilderness protection group, the Ventana Wilderness Alliance, at which we were all guests. This event was at Toro Park on the 22nd of October.

We are very pleased that Mary chose to wear our condor hat, which she had received previously while hiking Range of the Condor land in Carmel Valley. Ms.Adams and Mr. Panetta were both speakers at the VWA event.
