The levee breech and flooding of the Pajaro River in 2023 caused devastating damage to much of the Pajaro community, including the library housed in a National Register-listed mansion.
Monterey County stepped up. They undertook a major restoration program, respecting the building’s historic features. It is well on its way to reopening, a vital part of revitalizing the Pajaro community.
The annual meeting will also include board elections and an opportunity to renew your membership in person.
An added bonus—experience the newly re-opened First Theatre!

Please join us on September 27th at the Monterey County Historical Society. Its always a fun day to see how the Museum buildings have grown and improved. AMAP and many other groups will have tables. Costumed docents, ethnic dancers, prancing horses, classic cars---you never know what delights they will have. So much has happened through wonderful volunteer help and donations. Tell and bring your friends!

At our AMAP Annual Meeting at the Carmel Art Association in March, we had the pleasure of presenting our "2024 Preservationists of the Year" Award to Kirsten Stember and Laura Fenwick for their valiant and dedicated efforts to preserve the 100 year old Pebble Beach Equestrian Center in Pebble Beach. In a short amount of time, they did press interviews, raised funds for attorneys, spoke up at local meetings and did everything possible to prevent this tragic loss of a truly special historic place. Kirsten accepted the award for Laura who had a prior planned trip. We all enjoyed the art exhibit and great company.

The County of Monterey has issued the demolition permit based on the multi-project approval in 2012. Pebble Beach Company is preparing for heavy equipment to start the demolition of this National Register of Historic Places eligible wonderful resource for the residents of Del Monte Forest and the general public for over 100 years. A tragic loss for all.
