Community Foundation for Monterey County CFMC connects people who care with causes that strengthen Monterey County communities.

We make grants to community nonprofits in the areas of arts and culture, community and social services, health, education, animal welfare, environment, and historic preservation. Through the Center for Nonprofit Excellence we offer leadership development, workshops, technical assistance and other resources to strengthen area nonprofits and grassroots groups.

Thank you to our friends and partners who joined us for the Celebration of Philanthropy on October 7, 2026! Congratulations to John and Annette Romans, Community Foundation for Monterey County 2026 Distinguished Trustee recipients, honored for their enduring philanthropy, strengthening educational opportunities and enriching Monterey County through generous support of students, youth, historic preservation and community organizations.

Congratulations to CFMC President/CEO Dan Baldwin on receiving a Resolution from the Monterey County Board of Supervisors, presented on behalf of the County and its residents. The Resolution recognizes his exemplary leadership, dedicated service and enduring contributions to improving the lives of Monterey County residents through his work with the Community Foundation for Monterey County. It also congratulates him on his retirement following 16 years of distinguished service as President/CEO.

The Community Foundation for Monterey County has granted a total $220,000 from the Monterey County Fire Relief Fund to help those affected. This includes an additional $50,000 to Community Association of Big Sur for Timber and Plaskett Fire Relief and $30,000 to Meals on Wheels of the Monterey Peninsula for meals delivered to evacuation centers.

The Monterey County COAD (Community Organizations Active in Disaster) is still in touch with response partners and community-based organizations working in the area to stay up to date on emerging needs.

Congratulations to the Read To Me Project on opening its wonderful new headquarters in downtown Salinas!

Read to Me Project is a current CFMC Impact grant recipient for its financial literacy work in Salinas, King City and Greenfield. The organization has also been previously funded by the Siembra Latinos Fund and Southern Monterey County Foundation of the CFMC. We are also proud to share that Read to Me Project Executive Director Jason Little is a LEAD graduate of the foundation's Center for Nonprofit Excellence.

✨ SIEDI (Salinas Inclusive Economic Development Initiative) is working to build a more just and thriving economy. This week SIEDI Round 3 kicked off with much excitement and focus with panels and discussions on Solidarity Economics, Building Collaborative Action and Influence, as well as defining clear and measurable priorities for this next phase.

Our deepest thanks to The James Irvine Foundation for their continued investment in priority communities, including SIEDI. We are proud to carry on this work along with our partner organizations, along with the UCSC Institute for Social Transformation, First 5 Monterey County and Hartnell College to build a more inclusive and vibrant economy for all our neighbors.

We are excited to announce that Gina Dalma has been named the next President/CEO of Community Foundation for Monterey County!
