EARTH DAY CHALLENGE!
April 22 marks 50 years of celebrating Earth day! Each spring, Creative Works Farm has hosted school field trips that teach environmental responsibility and nature exploration. Since things are a little different this year, we thought we’d bring an Earth day challenge for you to do at home.
If you are up for the challenge, pick at least one of the following activities to do at home this week! Feel free to let us know how it went, or post pics in the comment section. We’d love to see how you are making a difference this week!
1: Conserve energy challenge—on Earth day, from sun up to sun down, turn off all lights in the house, turn the thermostat down, keep the tv and computer off, and unplug unneeded appliances. Spend your time outside playing and enjoying the fresh air, reading a book drawing, and more!
2: Read The Lorax, by Dr Seuss.
3. Make a recycle craft from plastic bottles. Did you know that over 60 MILLION plastic bottles end up in the landfill EVERY DAY? We need to use less plastic, and reuse/repurpose what we do use to make a difference. Below are some links to a few fun craft ideas. There are hundreds of other great ideas on pinterest and other sources!:

4. Clean up trash from around your neighborhood. Grab some gloves and a trash bag, and take the family on a mission to make your neighborhood even better. You’ll be surprised how many little things get blown around in the wind! Be sure to keep proper social distancing from others on your adventure, and wash hands well when you get home!
5. Start a garden or plant a tree. You can plant something small like a window herb garden, put a veggie plant in a container or pot on your deck or porch, or plant a few rows of yummy veggies in your yard.
Together we can all make our Earth more beautiful!
