Monterey Bay Plein Air Painters Association We invite you to join us in celebrating the awe-inspiring beauty of our area. Our hope is to preserve and pass on that beauty into the future.

The Monterey Bay Plein Air Painters Association (MBPAPA) is a non profit organization, founded by landscape painters who live and work in the Monterey Bay area to foster the understanding and appreciation of plein air (outdoor) painting. We are dedicated plein air painters inspired by the sea and landscapes of the extended Monterey Bay area, from Half Moon Bay down to Santa Cruz, Monterey, Carmel

and along the Big Sur coastline, as well as the adjacent inland areas along our beautiful stretch of California coast. Founded in 2005 by some of the area’s leading plein air landscape painters, we have been active in all things plein air, assisting various conventions and competitions as well as hosting several of our own juried art exhibits every year. Become a part of the impressive history of plein air painters who have cherished our California coast by painting it and sharing it with others.

Our MBPAPA Wednesday paint out; Wednesday; Aug. 19
at 10am - is at Asilomar Conference Center. From the Southern end of Sunset Drive turn onto Asilomar Ave and turn left at the first entry drive. Park in the lot near the Surf and Sand Meeting Room. We have a possible future MBPAPA painting show here. Area is open to the public so walk around to paint the historic Julia Morgan buildings, grounds, and dune trails. Restrooms in Asilomar Julia Morgan Main Lodge.

MBPAPA artists were in a somewhat new location today; Kirby Park which houses the unique landscape of Elkhorn Slough. It was a serene option from the busyness of car week around the Monterey Peninsula. We were treated to sightings of trains; egrets; birds; dragonflies and to be amongst fellow creatives. We had a good turn out of 8-10 artists 👩🏻‍🎨 spread out around the slough. Thanks Alfred Shamble for meeting us and choosing this location. 🎨🫶

After a very rough 2025, I am excited to show at this very special art walk venue at Casa Lopez. I invite you to treat yourself to an evening in the oak hills surrounded by awesome music, insane food and incredible art from around the Salinas Valley. Our MBPAPA Wednesday paint out is on Aug12 at 10am- 1pm. Kirby Park at Elkhorn Slough.
Drive along Elkhorn Rd to Kirby Road and park for free. This is a new location for us. It is at the far end of the slough with views of the waterways, tides, and local landscapes. Boat launch, restrooms and benches.

Our MBPAPA Wednesday paint out; Aug. 5 at 10am- 1pm. is at Cooper Molera Adobe, 506 Munras Ave; Monterey.
We can paint anywhere on the grounds, except in the wedding prep area under the large tree and elevated space near the barn. There is a plan to have another show of our paintings here in the future.
Restrooms and café on site.

Our MBPAPA Wednesday paint out this week; 7/29/26; is at Rocky Point along Hwy 1. We meet at 10 am. From Hiway 1 go South, past Pt Lobos, turn right into the gate at Rocky Pt.
Park in the lot at the end of the road. Ocean views in all directions. No restrooms.
Look out for the MBPAPA cone.

Our MBPAPA Wednesday paint out session this week; 7/22/26; is at Casa Del Oro Herb Garden and Old Adobe Plaza, Monterey. Take Pacific to Scott and Oliver and find a 2hr place to park. We are returning here from last months much appreciated demo by Christine Crozier. Paint Old adobe buildings, gardens and plaza.
Restrooms nearby at Herb Garden.
