Sheriff Luna's experience has prepared him to lead the LASD during a time of change and reform. Sheriff Luna has made it clear that he is committed to building trust between the community and the department. One of Luna's first actions as Sheriff was to create an executive team focused on reform and accountability. This team includes individuals with expertise in areas such as community engagement, diversity and inclusion, and use of force policies. The team is tasked with developing and implementing strategies to improve the department's relationship with the community and increase transparency and accountability.

The LASD Mounted Enforcement Detail is responsible for patrolling parks, beaches, and other public areas, as well as providing crowd control at public events. The horses and their riders are trained in a variety of techniques, including crowd management, search and rescue, and disaster response.

The CAC has been instrumental in providing feedback and suggestions to the LASD on a range of issues, including use of force, community policing, and diversity and inclusion. The council has also helped to identify areas for improvement and has been a resource for the department in developing new policies and programs.

On Saturday, October 22, 2022, between 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sheriff Alex Villanueva, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, LASD Community Advisory Council and LASD Transit Services Bureau-South in partnership with LA County 4th District Supervisor Janice Hahn will be hosting a Gift for Guns event.

The event will take place at LA Metro Norwalk Park & Ride, 12901 Hoaxie Avenue, Norwalk, CA 90650. You can turn in a gun to receive a gift card in the amount listed on the flyer; No Questions Asked!

Deputies will provide instructions on what to do when you arrive with your firearm. For further questions or information contact 213- 229- 2298.
