YOU CAN HELP THE WILDLIFE CENTER OF VIRGINIA!

Want to help us feed our wild patients this fall and winter? Many of the patients at the Wildlife Center, including fawns, squirrels, and bears, depend on acorns and other “hard mast” as an important fall and winter food.

This year, the Wildlife Center will be caring for a rambunctious bunch of seven growing bears throughout the winter – so we will be going through a lot of nuts!

We’re looking for cleaned acorns, chestnuts, and hickory nuts. Local Virginia nuts only please, in order to minimize disease transmission and keep nuts properly stored. Want to help feed the bears, but don’t have access to nuts? You can make a donation to the Wildlife Center and specify “Go Nuts!” as the specific purpose of your gift.

MVFD FIREHOUSE CLEAN-UP DAY:

We will be gathering at the Firehouse next Tue, August 18th beginning at 10:00 am for a Full Firehouse Cleanup effort. Please join if you're able, as we'll need lots of strong backs, helping hands and willing hearts! All cleaning supplies will be available on-site, however if you have gloves, etc. that you like to use whilst engaging in such work, please do bring them.

We'll have some sort of yummy treat(s) available to tempt you, so empty tummies are encouraged. 😁

We sure do hope to see you there!

The Montebello 250th Independence Day celebration is a week away! Please help in keeping fingers and toes crossed for great weather again this year.

Just a few last minute notes for everyone to consider for your family's planning purposes:
We need volunteers to help out on Thursday:
Setup of tents, tables, chairs, etc. will begin at 2 pm in the main area 'in front of' the lake. We'll need several (if we could get a dozen or so that'll make light work for all!) people to assist - it shouldn't take long to put everything in place.
Grill cooks are needed for burgers and dogs (2-4 people would be ideal!); please arrive around 4 pm to assist in getting things prepped and ready for cooking. Dinner will be served beginning at 6:30 pm, so it would be great to be ahead of the power curve on this!
If you would like to bring a dessert to share, we request that you make it a 'hand held' treat so that plates/forks aren't needed, and we thank all our amazing Montebello Bakers!

Remember to bring folding chairs, blankets, bug spray and anything else that would help in making your time at the Camp comfortable and fun. There will be games, waterfront activities and a bouncy house for the kids, music to be enjoyed by all, and again...a lovely picnic dinner will begin at 6:30 pm. Oh, and let's not forget the incredible fireworks display to begin at 9 pm!

All details are included within the attached flyer. We sure hope to see you all there!

Learn about the Blue Ridge Mountains and general rock foundations came to be. If you have a small rock you stumbled on in your garden or on the trail that you are curious about, bring it along.

A Q&A session and light refreshments will be a part of the fun!

Our entire community is invited to share in this very special event at the end of March, at the Firehouse. Please plan to join us!
