Friends of Anderson Park

Friends of Anderson Park It strives to protect the spirit and integrity of the park’s Olmsted landscape and to rehabilitate and maintain its pastoral ambiance.

Friends of Anderson Park is a conservancy serving as a liaison to Essex County, owner of the park, and is dedicated to the thoughtful stewardship of Anderson Park, and to fostering its historic, natural, cultural, environmental and educational qualities. Friends of Anderson Park formed informally in the fall of 2005 and incorporated in August 2006. It is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

The moon itself was hard to spot during the “Music Under the June Moon” concert in Anderson Park, but Mendelssohn (Felix and F***y) was in full glow. Then, as a nod to the concert’s 10th anniversary, the Chamber Music Society of North Jersey offered an encore arranged especially for the concert: the jazz standard “How High the Moon.”

Today’s raindate looks absolutely gorgeous for the free “Music Under the June Moon” concert in Anderson Park this Sunday, June 7. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m., but picnickers often come early to dine al fresco as the musicians set up.

We hope you can join us to hear the Chamber Music Society of North Jersey perform Felix Mendelssohn’s ambitious String Octet and the String Quartet by F***y Mendelssohn (Hensel). Come for the beautiful music, stay to see whether you like the big sister’s quartet more than her baby brother’s octet. This Saturday’s free “June Moon” concert in Anderson Park features works by the sibling musical prodigies F***y and Felix Mendelssohn. Each composer deserves to be enjoyed for his or her individual talents, but in fairness to F***y, it’s hard to compare anyone’s composition to her brother’s String Octet, which will lead the June 6 program. As the chief music critic for The Times in London has said about that piece, “If it’s not the finest example of youthful genius in classical music, please tell me what is.”

The concert is June 6 at 7:30 p.m., with the Chamber Music Society of North Jersey performing in Anderson Park, 274 Bellevue Avenue, Montclair.
