NARCISSE LEGACY SCHOLARSHIP
Throughout her life, Sybil Joyce Narcisse gave and served others in her local church and community. She discovered early in life the true joy of giving; giving of herself, her time and her resources to others. Sybil believed in leading by example as she encouraged young people to give and serve others through church and mission outreach, music and the arts, and through
community service. She enthusiastically gave when asked to support missions and was always a willing advocate, even when she could no longer participate. This scholarship is a particularly appropriate memorial to offer in memory of Sybil Joyce Narcisse and serves as an extension of her legacy, life's work and service to God and humanity. NARCISSE LEGACY SCHOLARSHIP is awarded annually to a male and female Christ Church high school senior who actively serves the people of God in the local church, has fulfilled hours of community service, and/or is an active member of the worship and performing arts. This student must plan to continue their education full-time towards a baccalaureate degree in the formal Higher Education setting. This scholarship is made possible by the generous contributions of family, friends and kind donors. NARCISSE
Sybil Joyce Narcisse was born on July 17, 1934, in Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies. An intelligent and avid learner, Sybil loved math and enjoyed keeping her mind active. She attended Calabas Elementary School, Buxton High School and Tutorial College where she completed her Senior Cambridge Exam. At the age of 13 years old, she accepted the Lord Jesus as her personal Savior and found the greatest joy in serving the Lord and others. As a creative and energetic young girl, her mother taught her how to sew, and it was at that time she developed an interest and love for sewing and for the craft. Realizing a career as a seamstress, she joined the Dorcas Group - a group of older, more experienced women who met monthly to sew and to sell their work as fundraisers for her church. She was active in the church...worked in the Sunday School, Youth Group, and served as the Missionary President. Throughout her life, she found great joy in serving the Lord. She loved to sing on the choir, sing solos, read poems, served as the secretary of her church and stayed active with the young people of the church. She was ordained a Deaconess, served as a pastor’s aide, worked in the care ministry, women’s ministry, communion, choir and sewed for the church. She believed the greatest joy in life was in serving God and giving to others. She gave unconditionally and she continued to serve God’s people faithfully throughout her years at the Information Center, Book Store and on the Steering Committee for the JOY Ministry. She continued to use her gifts and talents in the House of the Lord in sewing the table covers, outfits for the Dance ministry and the beautiful blue velvet covers that adorned the offering baskets. A focused and determine woman of God, she understood the value and importance of spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. At the age of 75, she served in Missions and went on several Mission Trips to Jamaica and the Dominican Republic. With a genuine love for God and a great compassion for God’s people, Mom Narcisse served as a LIFE Group hostess for more than 30 years.
