Kyler is an 8th grader from Smyrna and his favorite book is I Define Me, by none other than Kyler himself! WOW! His favorite subject in school is Georgia Studies and he wants to be an entrepreneur when he grows up! His favorite hobbies are Track, Cross Country, watching Netflix and hanging out with friends. SAVE the DATE! We end our month-long Black History Month celebration with our BLACK TO THE FUTURE Literacy Series co-sponsored by the Montclair School District on Friday, February, 24th from 5:30-7:3pm at Nishuane School. This special kid-centered evening will feature an Afrofuturistic Lego Building Center, Black Comic Book Literacy Station, performances by the youth collective, puppet show and more. This fun-packed evening will stimulate attendees to use our imagination to create a better future inspired by the African Diaspora and Black History Month. It’s BLACK TO THE FUTURE with the Montclair NAACP Education Committee Literacy/Dyslexia Task Force and Youth Council. Several unique family-oriented activities will take place to celebrate Black History Month throughout the month of February.

Wednesday, February 8th kicks off our BLACK TO THE FUTURE Black History Month celebration with a community wide virtual keynote address, “Black Literacy today’s Civil Rights Issue that Impacts Our Entire Future”. Keynote speaker will be renowned literacy and dyslexia advocate Dr. Kareem Weaver, co-Founder and Executive Director of (FULCRUM) Full and Complete Reading is a Universal Mandate and member of the Oakland, California NAACP Education Committee. Dr. Weaver is committed to improving literacy rates in California and across the country by engaging stakeholders around the systematic structures needed to cultivate excellent reading outcomes for all students.
