Sometimes rescue ends with adoption. Sometimes it ends with goodbye. Fiona’s story reminds us why both matter. 💔🐾 When Fiona was found, she was in critical condition. Animal control knew she would not survive the night in a shelter environment without immediate hospitalization. Within minutes of getting the call, Fly Away Home Rescue NJ was on the road rushing her to emergency care, where she was admitted for intensive, round-the-clock treatment.

Fiona was heartbreakingly emaciated, weak, and fragile. Her care required constant monitoring, carefully timed feedings to prevent fatal refeeding syndrome, hospitalization, mobility support, and intensive medical intervention. But despite the suffering her body had endured, Fiona remained gentle, loving, and trusting. 🌸

As she slowly regained strength, she began showing glimpses of comfort and peace—curling up in loving arms, sniffing the grass outside, feeling safety and kindness for perhaps the first time in a very long time.

And while every person involved hoped love and medicine could save her, Fiona’s body had suffered too much. She ultimately passed away surrounded by people who fought for her, cherished her, and refused to let her leave this world alone.

PAW often share stories of survival and happy endings. But means giving an animal every possible medical chance, even when the outcome is uncertain. Sometimes it means ensuring an animal experiences compassion, dignity, comfort, and love before they pass on. Sometimes the greatest gift we can offer is not a new life—but a peaceful, cherished ending to a life that knew far too much suffering.

PAW was honored to provide a medical grant to help support the extraordinary efforts of Fly Away Home Rescue NJ as they fought to save Fiona’s life. Your generosity allowed Fiona to receive intensive medical care, warmth, safety, gentle touch, and the dignity every animal deserves. Her life mattered. Her suffering mattered. And because compassionate people came together for her, Fiona did not leave this world forgotten. 💕

Thank you to Fly Away Home Rescue NJ for refusing to look away from animals in their darkest moments, and thank you to every supporter who helps make this work possible.

PAW recently contributed to a campaign to support Pancho—a dog caught in a heartbreaking situation that is becoming all too common.

After his owner was deported, Pancho was left behind and is now living in a basement with a family who, despite their best intentions, are unable to properly care for him. He’s grieving, confused, and showing signs of stress and aggression after losing the only person he knew. 💔

With small children in the home and limited resources, the situation reached a critical point.

Thanks to donation from our supporters, PAW was able to contribute funding toward Pancho’s care, helping to remove the financial barrier so that All Paws In could safely intake him and begin the work needed to stabilize and support him.

By offsetting the cost of his recovery—including medical care, grooming, and behavioral support—we help ensure that dogs like Pancho are given a chance, not turned away due to the complexity of their needs.

This is what our mission looks like in action: supporting rescues so they can say “yes” when it matters most.

At just 10 months old, Arnold was rescued from an abusive situation where he was mistreated physically and starved. He weighed only 5 pounds—less than half of what he should—arriving skin and bones, matted, and exhausted. Arnold was placed into foster care with our Executive Director, Karen Sacks—and his story is a powerful reminder of just how life-changing fostering can be.

Because a foster family was available to him, Arnold didn’t have to recover in a kennel or a stressful environment. Instead, he’s in a home—learning what it means to feel secure, to be cared for, and to trust again. 🐾💛

Fostering gives dogs like Arnold something they can’t get anywhere else:
✔️ A calm space to decompress
✔️ Consistent nutrition and care
✔️ Human connection and trust-building
✔️ A real chance at a healthy, happy future

He’s not available for adoption just yet—right now, his job is to heal, gain weight, and just be a puppy. And thanks to fostering, he’s already on his way.

This is the impact of opening your home—even temporarily. It can completely change the trajectory of a dog’s life! We're grateful to all the families opening their heart and homes to pets in need, and encourage those considering it to give it a try!

Dubba is a sweet senior who came to Cameron Animal Hospital from a large city shelter, where he wasn’t able to receive the medical care he needed for chronic constipation. While adjusting his diet helped, Dubba remained quiet, wasn’t eating well, and just didn’t seem like himself.

An anesthetic exam revealed the real issue—a painful tooth root abscess and underlying dental disease.

Thanks to a PAW medical grant, Dubba was able to receive the dental care he desperately needed. And the transformation? Almost immediate.

While his smile may look a little different now, his personality has completely blossomed. Our once quiet boy is now showing a playful, mischievous side we never got to see before. 🐱✨

And the best part? Dubba has been adopted by a loving family who fell head over heels for his very special smile. 🏡💕

This is what your support makes possible—relief from pain, a second chance, and a happy ending.

🎤 Speaking Up for Humane Solutions: We’re proud to share that PAW’s Executive Director, Karen Sacks, recently testified before the Montclair Town Council in support of an ordinance to ban lethal deer management in the township.

As highlighted in recent local coverage, Montclair is considering legislation that would prohibit hunting as part of its approach to managing wildlife—reflecting a growing commitment to humane, non-lethal solutions.

Karen’s testimony emphasized the importance of compassionate approaches that protect both animals and communities. At PAW, we believe that how we treat animals—wildlife included—reflects our values as a community, and we are committed to advocating for solutions that prioritize coexistence over harm.

This moment is about more than one ordinance—it’s about continuing to move New Jersey toward a more humane future for all animals. 🐾💚 We’re honored to stand alongside local leaders, advocates, and community members working to create thoughtful, compassionate change!

Standing with OSCAR After a Devastating Shelter Fire. On February 11, 2026, tragedy struck One Step Closer Animal Rescue (OSCAR) in Andover, NJ when a devastating fire tore through their shelter — a place that had served as a safe haven for so many dogs in need.

The damage to the building was catastrophic, and heartbreakingly, three beloved dogs lost their lives. Our hearts are with the OSCAR team as they grieve this unimaginable loss.

At the time of the fire, OSCAR was caring for around 40 dogs. Thanks to the heroic efforts of first responders, volunteers, and partner rescues, many of the dogs were safely evacuated and transported to emergency foster homes and veterinary facilities. Some are recovering from injuries. All of them — and the people who love them — have been deeply shaken.

Moments like this remind us just how important it is for the New Jersey animal welfare community to support one another, especially during times of devastation. PAW was honored to make a donation to help support OSCAR’s fundraising efforts as they begin the difficult road to recovery.

Our mission has always been to serve as a support system for shelters and rescues across New Jersey, especially as animal welfare organizations face increasing challenges, overcrowding, and limited resources. When crises happen, standing together helps ensure more animals remain safe and cared for.

OSCAR has made it clear: they are not giving up. And neither will the community that stands behind them.

Hensie was surrendered to Pick Your Paw Animal Rescue when her owners were unable to afford treatment for a life-threatening uterine infection and were considering euthanasia. She was also suffering from mammary masses that needed biopsy and evaluation.

Thanks to swift action from Pick Your Paw and the support of a PAW Grant, Hensie was able to receive the urgent surgery she needed, and her life was saved.

During her procedure, veterinarians discovered a foreign body that had been causing significant inflammation in addition to her other medical concerns. It was a complex case—but Hensie is a fighter. 💪🐾

She is now through the worst of it, recovering in a loving foster home while she continues to heal. This brave girl is on her way to a more comfortable, healthy life!

Stories like Hensie’s are exactly why PAW’s Grants matter. When cost stands in the way of care, we can step in—enabling rescues to say “yes” to animals who deserve a chance to live a long, healthy life.

We’re thrilled to share that Dorothy—now named Dolce Rose—has officially been adopted! 🐾💕

This beautiful story began with Momma Sophia, a brave mama dog under the care of Pick Your Paw Animal Rescue, who needed emergency surgery to safely deliver her puppies. Thanks to our PAW medical grant, Sophia received the life-saving care she needed, including hospitalization and post-operative support.

Sophia has since been adopted by her incredible foster mom, and now her puppy Dorothy (Dolce!) has found a loving forever home too! As you can see, she’s living the spoiled pup life, complete with a personalized pink blanket fit for the princess she is. 👑🐶

From a stressful start to a storybook ending, we’re honored to have played a small part in Dolce’s journey—and so grateful to our supporters who make this work possible.

During a recent visit to Monmouth County SPCA, PAW Executive Director Karen Sacks and Board Member Karen Moreira had the pleasure of meeting Roxy—a 4.5-year-old sweetheart weighing in at 56lbs with a heart full of love for people. 💛

Roxy craves companionship and greets everyone she meets with tail wags and affection. When we learned that she needed surgery for a torn ligament, PAW was proud to provide grant funding to help offset the cost of her care.

Thanks to the dedicated team at Monmouth County SPCA and the support of our donors, Roxy successfully underwent surgery and is now recovering comfortably in a foster home where she’s getting the TLC she needs to heal. 🐕‍🦺🩺

We’re so happy to be part of Roxy’s journey—and we know her special Valentine is out there waiting to meet her once she is all healed! 💘

We were honored to arrange a special visit to Monmouth County SPCA with Alexis Booker and Senator Cory Booker, who graciously spent the morning touring the shelter alongside our Executive Director, Karen Sacks and Board Member, Karen Moreira.

They took time to meet the incredible staff and the many adoptable animals who benefit from MCSPCA’s tireless efforts every day. It came as no surprise that both are passionate advocates for rescue, adoption, and animal welfare—something that Alexis’s incredible reel from the visit perfectly captures! 🎥🐶

It was a powerful day for animals in need, filled with thoughtful conversations, shared inspiration, and a renewed sense of commitment to improving the lives of pets and their people across New Jersey.

Thank you to Alexis, Senator Booker, and the entire MCSPCA team for your dedication, your compassion, and for making time to shine a spotlight on this vital work
