O'Seas Conservation Foundation O'Seas Conservation Foundation is a shark conservation research and youth education organization Established in 2013, O’Seas Conservation Foundation, Inc.

(OCF) is an organization that actively participates in wildlife conservation projects all over the world. Founded by Dr. Craig O’Connell and Dr. Nicole O'Connell, OCF was established to provide an educational research platform for undergraduate and graduate students for local and global conservation engineering, population dynamics, and other field studies focusing on marine organisms. However, wi

th a home base in New York, OCF’s key focus is to characterize the elasmobranch fauna in local waters to help obtain valuable population dynamics and structure-related data for several critical species. Besides this, OCF is unique in that it runs summer programs for 8th-12th graders, giving them the opportunity to be part of shark research projects and inspiring them to pursue a career in the field of conservation/marine biology.

This shark measured just 37” from the tip of the nose to the tip of the tail (stretched)! Pretty incredible catch and it sheds a lot of light about the importance of to this species.

Happy New Year! 2025 is going to be absolutely massive for us and we have all of you to thank! We wish you all a healthy and prosperous 2025.

Thank you all for your support and thanks for our amazing collaborators that have helped our nonprofit continue to make gigantic strides in the shark conservation realm, including , and many others!

Over the past two years, our team has deployed the largest non-netted shark exclusion barrier to date (in Cape Cod) as a way to see if it is an effective shark deterrent technology that could replace shark nets and drumlines that kill countless sharks and other types of marine wildlife.

The results were better than expected. Please watch to the end to see the typical white shark response. We did not have any white sharks swim through during the duration of experimentation and we hope to continue to move forward in the coming months to make the dream of ending shark culling a reality.

We have made tremendous strides over the past 12 years and we are excited to keep moving onwards and upwards. We have many new projects for 2025, including one massive project that will give us the ability to educate many more people (young and old) throughout the summer, so any help (even $1) would be beyond appreciated). Thank you for considering our nonprofit and we wish you an amazing holiday season.
