Today is the Mayan Calendar Day of Belejeb (9) Keme.

Nine — the sacred frequency of birthing. Keme — the Nine Lords of Death and Transformation. It is an extraordinarily powerful day to begin something new through the fire of what must first be released.

On this Mayan Day on 2006, Earth Peoples United became the stewards of Deer Mountain Sanctuary — this land north of Mt. Shasta, near the Klamath River that flows at the California/Oregon border. A threshold was crossed. A covenant was made. And the land received us.

Belejeb (9) Keme falls within the 13-day Mayan week that begins with Jun (1) Tijax — the one obsidian blade, the tongue, the power of communication and discernment. The Tijax carries a teaching written in the Aztec Calendar and in the living prophecy of this time: if we can use this blade in the direction of collaboration and cooperation rather than division and harm, humanity can return to harmony with life. We can become aware of our relationship with each other and with all our relations. We can become those who serve.

And the culmination of this 13-day week? Oxlajuj (13) Tz'i — the full empowerment of the clan, the community. This is the energy within which our relationship with Deer Mountain began. Clan. Community. Full empowerment. The circle complete.

This year, we mark this anniversary at a threshold unlike any before it — the 20-year anniversary of Earth Peoples United. Last weekend, we took down the old Pop Jay structure that has stood on this land for nearly two decades. It was a death and a rebirth in one act. We held it with ceremony and with gratitude, honoring all the prayers and all the people who gathered within it across all those years.

Now the poles are being harvested. The new Pop Jay is coming.

We make offerings today to Deer Mountain Sanctuary and to all the Beings who live here — seen and unseen. To the land, to the waters, to the trees, to the stone nation, to the ancestors who have walked this ground before us, and to the future generations who will walk it after.

Today we honor the first Mother — the one who has held us since before memory.

She is the soil beneath our feet and the water in our blood. She is the cedar and the fern, the fog rolling over the mountain, the heartbeat of the drum that calls us home. She does not ask to be remembered. She simply continues — giving, receiving, renewing — in the great cycle that has no beginning and no end.

We exist between her and the heavens, held by her body, breathing her breath, drinking her waters. Every ceremony we tend, every fire we light, is an act of love returned to her. It is the least we can do.

On this day, Earth Peoples United holds in gratitude all the mothers who carry life forward — the human mothers, the grandmothers, the clan mothers, the mothers of lineage and of land. The ones who stayed up through the night. The ones who planted seeds they will never see harvest. The ones who held the circle when it wanted to break.

We see you. We honor you. We are because you are.

MAY DAY · BELTANE

There is a vision that every people on Earth has seen independently — a great Tree at the center of all things, its roots in the underworld, its trunk the pillar of the living world, its crown touching the heavens.

The Norse called it Yggdrasil. The Vedics, Ashvattha. The Maya, Wakah-Chan — embodied in the sacred ceiba tree. The Haudenosaunee gathered warring nations beneath the Great Tree of Peace and buried their weapons under its roots. The Amazon nations need no symbol — for them, the rainforest itself is the Tree of Life, literally and breathingly real.

Every continent. Every century. Every tongue. The Tree stands at the center.
And everywhere the Tree stands, people have gathered around it to pray, to dance, to remember who they are and how they are held.

The Celtic Maypole and the Maya Palo Volador are the same ceremony remembered across an ocean — the pole at the center, the spiral motion outward, the sacred numbers winding through time. Different peoples. The same truth.

On this May Day, we raise the pole together. We are the roots. We are the branches. We are the blossoms. We are the weave.

Mother Earth, we remember.

We remember that we are made of your waters,
your minerals,
your breath.

In a world that moves quickly and forgets easily,
you remain steady.
You remain patient.
You continue to give.

Teach us to walk gently.
Teach us to listen deeply.
Teach us to live in right relationship —
with you, with one another, and with all of life.

May our actions today and every day
reflect the gratitude we carry.

This Sunday, we circle up again. 🌎

Once a month, our Unity Gatherings open a space for hearts from around the world to pray together, listen together, and remember what it feels like to belong — to each other, to the land, to the rhythms larger than ourselves.

What moves through the circle is always different, and always the same. Someone speaks of a well running dry, and someone else of rain returning. One shares a vision beneath a tree; another, a dream that changed them. A story about bees becomes a teaching about community. A reflection on the turning seasons becomes a prayer for all of us turning with them. The water, the pollinators, the sacred sites, the ancestors, the children, the quiet moments of transformation — these all find their way into the same circle, and somehow, they all belong to the same conversation.

This is the heart of our Unity Gatherings: a digital talking stick passed across continents, a shared frequency of intention, a reminder that our small acts of care — for the Earth, for each other, for ourselves — are never small.

Come as you are. Bring your gratitude. Bring your questions. Bring your silence.

Something isn't working anymore — and many of us can feel it.

The systems shaping our world are no longer holding. More division. More disconnection. More imbalance.

But what if this moment isn't just collapse? What if it's a call to remember something older?

For thousands of years, communities lived in balance with one another and with the Earth. There were structures that supported this. We are returning to one of them.
