What does a day of working registered calves actually involve?
At Hinton Ranch Simmentals, fall calves recently went through an important stage of herd management that helps ensure accurate records, genetic tracking, and long-term performance evaluation.
During processing, each calf received:
• Weaning weights to measure growth and performance
• DNA samples for genetic verification and data collection
• Permanent identification tattoos in the ears
• Freeze brands for easy visual identification throughout life
These records help producers make informed decisions about genetics, replacement females, breeding programs, and overall herd improvement for years to come.
While it may look like a busy day in the corrals, every step plays a role in maintaining the quality and integrity of registered cattle programs.
Have you ever wondered what happens behind the scenes before cattle are marketed, shown, or added back into a breeding herd?
