Yesterday we completed our Monocacy River cleanup service project. Our Scout Troops 1268 and 268 In partnership with the Creek Cleanup Project ( https://creekcleanupproject.org ), students from Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity at UMD, Frederick Regional Association of Youth ( http://frayfrederickmd.org ), and other various volunteers from the community, we cleaned up 6 miles of the Monocacy. Most of this effort was put in to about 2.5 miles between River Side Park Boat Ramp and Clustered Spires Golf Course. We pulled out around 270 tires from the rivers at 3 different locations. In one 1/2 miles stretch alone, we pulled 140 tires. There is much left to do on the river, but we made a lot of improvement for a day's work.
Please note the the Creek Cleanup Project is interested in partnering with other Scout Troops in the area to do more river cleanups.
A special thank you to all the organizations that help make this happen today, and the behind the scenes work of the various departments City of Frederick, County of Frederick, Parks Department, and Clustered Spires Golf Course for making this event possible to execute. We look forward in the future to helping keep the river beautiful.
