Huey is our English Mastiff, and we’re guessing he weighs somewhere around 170 pounds. That’s a whole lot of dog!

Now, Huey doesn’t really have a purpose here on the farm. He’s not here to work, protect anything, or earn his keep. He’s just here because AJ needed another male around for support.

So basically, Huey’s job is to eat, sleep, take up space, and keep AJ company. And let me tell you, he’s pretty good at all four!

But that’s okay. Not everybody on the farm has to have a job. Sometimes just being there for somebody is enough.

Ecclesiastes 4:9 — “Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour.”

Olive is a Great Pyrenees/Anatolian Shepherd mix, and she is just the sweetest thing!

One thing I love about livestock guardian dogs is how God designed them with such a natural instinct to protect. Did you know that unlike herding dogs, livestock guardian dogs are bred to stay with their animals and protect them from predators? They are independent thinkers and always seem to know what’s going on, even when we don’t!

Olive may be a big girl, but she has the sweetest heart. She’s just a big ol’ lovebug, and we sure do love her!

God sure knew what He was doing when He created these amazing animals. Each one has a purpose, and Olive is a sweet reminder of that.

This is Corrie, our pony mare. And y’all, this girl has an attitude!
She is the bossiest, biggest food hog we have. If there is food involved, Corrie thinks it belongs to her. ALL of it!
And that side eye! Let me tell you, she has that down to an art. If looks could talk, we would all be in trouble!

The best way I know to describe Corrie is a Sour Patch Kid. One minute she’s sweet, the next she’s sour. The only difference is, with Corrie, you never know which one you’re going to get!

I love this picture! Kid is stretching his neck out as far as he can just to be a little closer to Kat. These two have quite the bond, and I think Kid would follow her just about anywhere. Let me add that she talks to them like they are human friends and it’s so cute.

One of my favorite things about having the farm is watching the relationships our children build with the animals.

Did you know that horses have some of the largest eyes of any land mammal? Their eyes are about eight times larger than ours!

They can see almost 350 degrees around them, see better than we can in low light, and even recognize familiar faces! They also see colors, just not quite the same way we do.

One thing I find interesting is that horses have blind spots directly in front of and behind them. Just another reason to always let them know you’re there!

The more I learn about these animals, the more amazed I am at God’s creation. Every little detail has a purpose.

This is still one of my favorite pictures from last spring. Dolly, Clover, and Lorelai all decided that staying out of the rain was a good idea. I love how they are all gathered together, just waiting for the rain to pass. Sometimes it’s the simplest things around the farm that make the best pictures.

Today we are showing off some of the cutest little faces here on the farm! Our rabbits are all so adorable, each with their own little personality. From their twitching noses to those sweet little ears, it’s hard not to fall in love with every single one of them!

Some are curious, some are a little shy, and some just want to see what treats you brought them. But one thing is for sure, they are all absolutely precious!

It’s the little things here on the farm that bring us so much joy, and these little ones are certainly no exception.

Chickens, chickens, and more chickens!

We have way too many to name, so I’ll just stick with the breeds!

Golden Comets, Buff Orpingtons, Lavender Orpingtons, Cuckoo Marans, Black Copper Marans, Rhode Island Reds, Olive Eggers, Easter Eggers, Leghorns, Ameraucanas, Barred Rocks, Wyandottes, Sussex, Silkies… and probably a few more! That’s just what I can think of off the top of my head!

Around here, we call it chasing the rainbow!

Different breeds of chickens lay different colored eggs. We’ve got white, brown, blue, green, olive, and those pretty dark chocolate brown eggs. That’s why we have so many different breeds. We love having a colorful egg basket!

I just love seeing all the different colors and varieties God created. Even something as simple as gathering eggs is a reminder of His goodness.

Bonus post!

Today I decided to see if my chickens would carve a pumpkin like I’ve seen on social media. So I grated three areas on the pumpkin and took it out to them to see what they would do.

Well, this evening I went out to check on it, and they did not disappoint!

I’ll have to post a follow-up tomorrow so you can see how it turns out.

But seriously, how neat is this?! I just love it!

Meet Cheep, Fiona, Zigzag and Quackers!

These four are a mess! They love to eat, make a mess and run from us every time we try to love on them. You would think by now they would know we aren’t going to hurt them, but nope! They want nothing to do with us unless we have food!

And don’t let us be late feeding them! If we don’t show up when they think we should, they make their way to the front of the house to let us know we aren’t doing our job. Apparently, we are supposed to be on their schedule, not ours!

They may not want us touching them, but they sure don’t mind telling us what to do!
