Understanding begins with an internal oath — a personal commitment to walk into every Lodge with intentional kindness, compassion, and respect. When someone enters our doors, they should immediately feel that they have stepped into a place of support, belonging, and genuine care. A place where every person is welcomed, seen, valued, and encouraged to simply be themselves.
Being a Moose member is about so much more than a building, a meeting, or a social quarter. It’s about people. It’s about connection. It’s about belonging.
A Lodge should be a place of kindness, friendship, caring, and mutual respect. A safe environment where like-minded people come together not only to socialize, but to build lasting bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood. A place where you can walk into a room, sit anywhere, look across at another member, and know you are among family.
That is the true spirit of fraternalism.
We should all take an oath within ourselves to be kinder, friendlier, more welcoming, and more understanding. Every member, every staff person, every board officer, and every volunteer should embrace the values that make our organization special:
1. Kindness with intention
2. Support for one another
3. Belonging and inclusion
4. Being seen, heard, and valued
5. Compassion and understanding
6. Respect and dignity
7. Community and fellowship
8. Social connection
9. Mutual aid
These values are not just words — they are the foundation of who we are. They are what keep our Lodges strong, our membership united, and our purpose meaningful.
A Moose Lodge should be a place where humanity shines through. Where people communicate, support one another, laugh together, and stand together through life’s challenges and celebrations alike.
If we truly live these values every day, we strengthen not only our organization, but also the communities around us.
That’s what being a Moose member is all about. It really is that simple.
