Crosswalk Community Church Announces Exciting New Chapter of Service and Philanthropy

MONROE, MI – Crosswalk Community Church, a cornerstone of the Monroe community since 2008, is excited to announce a bold new direction that will allow us to continue serving our community in meaningful ways.

As Secretary of the Board and a founding charter member, I'm honored to share our journey and vision for the future.

**Our Story**

Crosswalk Community Church was born in the fall of 2008. What began with Sunday evening meetings in a pole barn quickly grew as we rented Monroe Middle School for Sunday mornings services and The First Baptist Church for evening services. It was important to our founding pastor, the late Rev. Dale Hayford, to build a vibrant community, centered on youth and family ministry.

In the summer of 2009, Crosswalk became deeply involved in the community-wide search for young Nevaeh Buchanan. Dale and our congregation stood alongside the family and community during that difficult time, and many found a church home with us in the aftermath.

Around 2013, we purchased the old Skateway Roller Rink at 925 South Monroe and transformed it into a hub of community activity. For years, our building hosted countless teen lock-ins, many children's plays, wild game dinners, ladies' advent teas, powerful Sunday worship services and even a few cardboard ministries.

In January of 2020 CrossWalk partnered with 2|42 to swap buildings. Considered a "Win Win" for both Churches, 2|42 was growing fast and needed more building space and CrossWalk was looking for the opportunity to be debt free and financially stable. Both Churches had their first Sundays in their new buildings on Feb 19, 2020.

Over the years, we've been blessed with several dedicated pastors and their leadership, Rev. Dale Hayford our founding pastor and later Pastor Emeritus, Keith Stewart, and most recently Scott Reed and his family, who will be answering a call to oversea mission work in the summer of 2026, where we will continue to support them.

**A New Chapter**

After prayerful consideration, Crosswalk's leadership has made the decision to sell our building at 14905 S Telegraph and transition to a new model of ministry. Our last Sunday service at this location will be November 16th. Beginning this fall, we will gather for Sunday worship in a home setting, returning to our roots of intimate community fellowship.

But this isn't an ending – it's an exciting new beginning.

The proceeds from our building sale will be invested in supporting nonprofit organizations that align with Crosswalk's statement of beliefs, amplifying our impact across the community. We will also continue our support of the Reed family's mission work, as our founding pastor Dale was a huge supporter of mission work.

**Looking Forward**

We are grateful for every person who has called Crosswalk home over these 17 years. We celebrate those who have found new church families and continue to serve God in their communities. CrossWalk and its pastors have cultivated an environment over the years to support young believers to hone their ministry skills, and equip them for future mission or ministry work. Close to a hundred people are serving in some capacity in mission or ministry work at other churches across America who at one point called CrossWalk home. Their faithfulness and service are a testament to the foundation we built together.

Crosswalk Community Church isn't closing – we're transforming into a philanthropic force for good in Monroe and beyond. We remain committed to living out our faith through service, generosity, and support for organizations making a real difference in people's lives. Please continue to follow our page for updates of upcoming community gatherings and news.

We look forward to this next chapter and to continuing our mission of serving our community in new and impactful ways.

**Community Sale**

CrossWalk will be holding a sale on November 7th, 8th, and 9th from 9am to 5pm at 14905 S Telegraph. The community is welcome to attend.
