Union County Man and Woman of the Year

Each year, two Union County residents are selected as Man and Woman of the Year.

Recipients have sacrificed their time and energy to benefit the county and are nominated by employers, coworkers, associates and friends. Each year, two Union County residents are selected for the honor of Man and Woman of the Year. The recipients do not apply for or seek this honor; in fact, all are shocked that they have been nominated, much less selected. They are selected, based on nominations

by employers, co-workers, associates and friends. You know someone who should be nominated for this award, someone who tries to make a difference for Union County and its citizens. He or she may do this while working, while volunteering with heart and hands or in both aspects of life. Potential nominees have sacrificed their time and energy to benefit Union County, and we truly appreciate their commitment and involvement.

2026 Union County celebration luncheon honored 2025 recipients John Wiggins and Rhonda Griffin! The residents of Union County are so blessed by the efforts and servitude of these two individuals and others honored before them!

The 2025 Woman of the Year is Mrs. Rhonda Griffin, founder and Executive Director of A Cause for Tea, a nonprofit organization she established in 2014. Rhonda's leadership has empowered countless women and
children to overcome challenges such as addiction, poverty, and malnutrition. A Cause for Tea works closely with local leaders and community members to provide advocacy and training, focusing on self-empowerment to help individuals successfully reintegrate into their communities. Through her tireless efforts, Rhonda has made an indelible impact on the lives of those in need throughout Union County.

The 2025 Man of the Year is Mr. John Wiggins, president and owner of Wiggins Construction Company in Monroe. John’s dedication to Union County is evident in his extensive involvement with numerous local nonprofits. He has served on the board of directors for the Community Shelter of Union County for nine years,
including a term as board chair. John also played a critical role in the Union Academy Foundation, leading a $16 million expansion. His generosity extends beyond his professional endeavors, as he donates space in his downtown Monroe properties for the Union County Art Walk, allowing local artists to showcase their work and
celebrate the community's creative spirit.

Happy Fall everyone! It is that time of the year again to select the next Union County Man and Woman of the Year. Now through Oct. 31st we will be accepting nominations for those who have selflessly devoted their time to volunteer for their charitable cause. The candidates must reside in Union County and their efforts must be concentrated on the Union County Community! If you require a form, please do not hesitate to send a message.

Nominations are being accepted for the 2024 Union County Man and Woman of the Year. Each year, two Union County residents are selected for the honors, based on nominations by employers, co-workers, associates and friends.

Potential nominees have sacrificed their time and energy to benefit Union County. They make a difference while volunteering with heart and hands.

You can help previous recipients select this year’s winners by nominating citizens whose efforts have made a positive impact on our county.

The award is based strictly on grass-roots involvement and leadership in Union County, not what an individual does as part of his or her job or through financial contributions. Recipients will have worked with multiple organizations over multiple years benefiting the citizens of Union County.

All nominees must be a current resident of Union County.
Forms can be downloaded here. Deadline for nominations is Oct. 31.

Recipients will be honored at the annual Man and Woman of the Year luncheon in January.
