A few years ago, Abdul El-Sayed was the keynote speaker at the Muslims4Peace event.

Today, he is poised to make history in Michigan. If current polling trends hold, El-Sayed could become the first Muslim elected to the U.S. Senate in American history.

A physician and former Detroit Health Director, El-Sayed has built his campaign around expanding access to healthcare through Medicare for All, reducing the influence of money in politics, and challenging the growing power of billionaires and corporate interests.

Throughout his career in public service, he has worked to rebuild Detroit’s health department following the city’s bankruptcy, helped launch an initiative that eliminated medical debt for approximately 300,000 Michiganders, and advocated for removing lead from Detroit elementary schools.

The son of Egyptian immigrants, El-Sayed was the runner-up in Michigan’s 2018 gubernatorial race.
His campaign has focused on healthcare, housing affordability, economic justice, and government accountability issues that affect communities across Michigan and the country.

🇺🇸 A new $20 million mosque has officially opened in Dearborn Heights, Michigan, becoming one of the largest Islamic centers in the state.

The 62,000-square-foot Islamic Institute of America, led by prominent Iraqi-born Shia cleric Imam Sayed Hassan Al-Qazwini, features five golden domes, 22 classrooms, a day care center, an Islamic seminary, a banquet hall, a coffee house, and parking for 550 vehicles. The project was funded through community donations, bank loans, and a $2 million donation from the Iraqi government made during Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani’s tenure.

Speaking at the opening, Al-Qazwini said the mosque was intended to be “a new landmark for Islam in America” and emphasized that its mission was to build a community and a new generation proud of their religion and faith.

Hundreds of political, religious, and community leaders attended the opening, including Rep. Rashida Tlaib, Dearborn Heights Mayor Mo Baydoun, and Catholic Archbishop Edward Weisenburger.

Muslims4peace joins the Georgetown community and the global public in mourning the passing of University Professor Emeritus John L. Esposito (1940–2026). As a leading scholar of Islam and international affairs, and the founding director of both the Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding and The Bridge Initiative, Dr. Esposito was a visionary voice who dedicated his life to protecting pluralism and ending Islamophobia. His pathbreaking work profoundly shaped the modern study of Muslim societies.
We offer our heartfelt condolences to Dr. Esposito’s family, friends, and former students. We are deeply grateful for his enduring contributions to interfaith harmony, and his remarkable legacy will live on through the vital institutions he built.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Muslims4Peace Condemns Deadly Terrorist Attack on San Diego Mosque; Urges Immediate Government Action to Protect Islamic Centers Nationwide

MONROE TOWNSHIP, NJ — Muslims4Peace (M4P) strongly condemns the horrific terrorist attack that took place on Monday morning outside the Islamic Centre of San Diego, which resulted in the tragic deaths of three innocent men. We offer our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and the entire San Diego community during this time of immense grief and shock.

According to law enforcement reports, two teenage gunmen opened fire outside the mosque complex in what is being investigated as a targeted hate crime. Among the deceased is a courageous security guard whose heroic actions played a pivotal role in preventing the gunmen from entering the complex, directly saving the lives of countless community members and children who were safely evacuated from the school inside.

The subsequent discovery of a su***de note detailing white supremacist "racial pride" and hate speech scrawled across the weapons confirms that this was a deliberate act of violent extremism aimed at terrorizing the American Muslim community.

While we are relieved that the children inside the school were unharmed, this tragedy underscores an ongoing, terrifying reality: our houses of worship continue to be targets for hate-fueled violence.

An Urgent Appeal for Security in New Jersey and Nationwide

In light of this devastating attack, Muslims4Peace is issuing an urgent appeal to local, state, and federal government officials specifically within our home state of New Jersey to immediately increase law enforcement presence and security measures around all Islamic Centers, mosques, and faith-based schools.

"We cannot wait for another tragedy to strike before we take decisive action," said a representative of Muslims4Peace. "Our communities have a fundamental right to pray, learn, and gather in peace. We call upon Governor Mikie Sherrill, the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness (NJOHSP), and local law enforcement agencies to deploy enhanced security patrols and unlock critical grant funding to fortify the physical security of our religious institutions."

Muslims4Peace urges mosque administrations and community members across New Jersey to remain highly vigilant, review their security protocols, and immediately report any suspicious activity to local authorities.

We stand in absolute solidarity with our brothers and sisters in San Diego. We pray for the elevation of the souls of the victims, strength for their grieving families, and a future free from the scourge of hate and violence.

“Christians and Muslims can live together and be friends.” — Pope Leo XIV 🕊️

A powerful reminder today from Algiers. As we witness a world often divided by conflict, these words serve as a necessary blueprint for our shared future. True faith doesn’t build walls; it builds bridges of fraternity and respect.

Let us choose friendship over fear and peace over power. 🤝✨

“There can be no true peace without dialogue and mutual respect.” — Pope Francis

History remembers moments of division but it also honors those who chose connection over conflict. 🤝🕊️

From Pope Francis’s historic visit to Iraq to Pope Leo’s visit to Algeria, these acts of presence speak louder than words. They remind us that faith, when rooted in compassion, becomes a bridge not a barrier.

This image reflects a powerful truth: when leaders of different faiths stand in shared spaces of worship and reflection, they affirm our common humanity. Christians and Muslims do not lose their identity in unity—we elevate it through mutual respect, understanding, and a shared commitment to peace.

The path forward is not fear of one another, but walking together with dignity and purpose.
