It’s 4-H Pride Day!

To wrap up National 4-H Week, we want to see what makes YOU proud to be part of 4-H! Show off a project you worked hard on, a ribbon you earned, your favorite club shirt, a skill you’ve learned, or anything else that represents your 4-H journey.

Share your 4-H pride in the comments OR make your own post and tag us for one more chance to be entered into our 4-H swag drawing!

4-H Fun Fact!
In 2023, 4-H launched the Beyond Ready initiative, focused on preparing young people with the skills they need to succeed in school, careers, and life.

And that’s what 4-H is all about! Whether a 4-H’er is learning to cook, manage money, care for an animal, code a robot, speak in front of a crowd, lead a team, or complete a project on their own, they’re building skills that go far beyond that one activity.

4-H helps young people become Beyond Ready for whatever comes next....and that is something to be proud of!

Our next Favorite Event Friday spotlight is Madeline Taylor!

Madeline’s 4-H story has come full circle. She grew up as a Union County 4-H’er, and now she’s back serving the same community as a Union County Extension Agent for Field Crops!

Her favorite 4-H event is NC 4-H Congress. For Madeline, Congress was a chance to travel to Raleigh and connect with 4-H’ers from across North Carolina, building friendships and memories beyond her own county.

We love seeing former Union County 4-H’ers grow up, pursue their passions, and find their way back to Extension!

What’s your favorite 4-H event or memory? Tell us in the comments!

Next up for Favorite Event Friday is our Livestock Agent, Rachel!

Rachel’s favorite 4-H event is Poultry Judging because she loves getting to watch young people develop their skills and knowledge of the poultry industry while growing in confidence along the way.

From learning how to evaluate poultry and eggs to practicing decision-making and explaining their choices, Poultry Judging is a great example of learning by doing in action.

For Rachel, one of the best parts is watching that growth happen and seeing 4-H’ers become more knowledgeable, confident, and proud of what they can accomplish!

Next up for Favorite Event Friday is me, Union County 4-H Agent, Autumn!

My favorite 4-H event is summer camp....although I’ll admit that might be cheating since summer camp is really a whole bunch of events rolled into one!

What I love most is getting to watch kids learn by doing and grow. I get to see them try something new, discover interests, build confidence, make friends, become more independent, and realize they’re capable of more than they thought.

I also love getting to host our summer interns and CITs and watch them learn, grow, and become part of creating those experiences for our 4-H’ers.

Summer is busy, but getting to watch kids learn, try, grow, and have fun along the way makes it one of my favorite parts of 4-H! đź’š

It’s Favorite Event Friday!

We asked a few people in our office to share the 4-H event that holds a special place in their heart. First up is 4-H Agent Crystal, whose favorite is NC 4-H Congress!

For Crystal, Congress is special because it’s a chance to celebrate our teenagers and everything they’ve accomplished through 4-H. She still remembers attending her first Congress and how emotional she felt watching the Honor Club tapping ceremony. Seeing the traditions of 4-H, watching young people be recognized, and seeing the legacy of 4-H continue through each generation is what makes Congress so meaningful to her.

Be sure to look through the photos, too! We included some 4-H Congress throwbacks from years ago. It’s pretty special to see how some traditions have continued through the generations!

Now we want to hear from you! What is your favorite 4-H event or memory? Share it in the comments or make your own post and tag us for a chance to be entered into our 4-H swag drawing!

It’s Thankful Thursday, and this one is for the people who make 4-H possible. 💚

Union County 4-H has a long and incredible history, but that history isn’t just made up of programs, ribbons, camps, competitions, and events. It’s made up of people.

It’s the club leader who gives up an evening to teach a new skill. The parent who drives to one more meeting. The volunteer who shows up year after year. The mentor who encourages a 4-H’er when they’re nervous. The educator who shares their knowledge. The farmer or business owner who opens their doors to a group of curious kids. The community partner who says, “Yes, we’d love to help.”

To our volunteers, parents, mentors, educators, Extension staff, club leaders, community partners, guest speakers, and every person who has poured their time, knowledge, patience, and love into our 4-H’ers: thank you.

You may not always get to see the impact of the time you give, but it matters. You help young people discover what they’re capable of, find people who believe in them, and create memories they may carry with them for the rest of their lives.

For 4-H for Good Thursday, help us celebrate someone who has made a difference in your 4-H journey. Share their name or a favorite memory in the comments, or make your own post and tag us for a chance to be entered into our 4-H swag drawing!

4-H Fun Fact! In 1989, 4-H went to space! Astronaut Mary Cleave carried a 4-H flag aboard the Space Shuttle Atlantis. 🚀🍀

💚 Thankful Thursday! 🍀

This National 4-H Week, we’re taking a moment to recognize the people who make 4-H so special! From volunteers and club leaders to families and mentors, there are so many people who help our 4-H’ers learn, grow, and succeed!

We asked our staff who they’re thankful for, and now we want to hear from YOU!

How soon is too soon for a throwback?

Earlier we shared some throwbacks from 4-H’s long history, but we couldn’t let Throwback Wednesday pass without highlighting some of our more recent Union County 4-H memories!

Whether it happened 50 years ago or just last summer, every 4-H experience becomes part of our story. Take a look back at some of the memories our 4-H’ers have made along the way!

4-H Fun Fact!
In 1959, President Dwight D. Eisenhower helped mark an important moment in 4-H history with the opening of the National 4-H Center in Washington, D.C.

Have a favorite 4-H throwback of your own? Share it in the comments or post it and tag us for a chance to be entered into our 4-H swag drawing!
