šø Meet Freesia šø
Born in January, 2005, Freesia was one of more than thirty Arabian horses rescued from neglect at a breederās farm in 2010. The horses were found standing in 3 feet of compacted manure, thin, covered in lice, and had hooves so overgrown that they had begun to curl. Rescuers had to use pick axes to get the stall doors open after being shut inside for so long. Though many of them were dispersed to uncertain fates, Freesia was one of the lucky few who found safety through the efforts of our sanctuary community.
We first met Freesia when Equine Aid volunteered to assist the initial rescuers with transporting her to her foster home. While there she learned that gentle hands could be trusted as she received grooming, hoof care, and gained weight. After two months, the initial rescuers picked her up and hauled her back to their site. They were not prepared financially for thirty horses and were desperately sending the horses off without screening new homes.
As Freesia was passed around, her previous foster home caretaker discovered that she had been listed on Craigslist for $200 and alerted Equine Aid staff. We contacted the person who was selling her and brought her to our farm.
After being placed out in a loving companion home in 2019, Freesia returned to the sanctuary with her new friend Chance in 2022 due to no fault of her own.
Now Freesia has blossomed into the sweet, graceful āwhite princessā we know today, although sheās said to be known for immediately finding the muddiest spot to roll in after she has been groomed.
