💙 Thank you, Abby Bak and Kelly Taylor, for speaking at Monroe Rotary!

We appreciated learning more about Cardinal Hospice Care and the compassionate support they provide to patients and their families. Abby and Kelly shared what hospice care truly means, how volunteers can make a difference, and the grief counseling services available to help families navigate loss.

Thank you for reminding us that hospice care is about so much more than caring for a patient—it’s about supporting the entire family with compassion, dignity and comfort. We’re grateful for the important work you do in our community! 💙

🌟 Growing Teachers from Within! 🌟

Monroe Rotary was pleased to welcome Dr. Emily Kraftson, who shared about Teach UCPS, a unique program designed to grow educators from within Union County Public Schools. The program creates multiple pathways into the teaching profession—from high school students exploring education to adult learners pursuing a career change.

One inspiring example is Shaneta Little, who began her UCPS career as a bus driver in 2014, became a teaching assistant while completing her bachelor’s degree, and entered the classroom as an Exceptional Children’s teacher in 2022 through an alternative licensure pathway. Today, she is a third-year EC teacher at East Elementary School while continuing to complete her degree and licensure through university partnerships.

Her “why” says it all: “I’m here because I love these kids. And I want them to leave my classroom better than they came in.” ❤️

Thank you, Dr. Kraftson, for sharing how Teach UCPS is helping build the next generation of teachers right here in our community! 🍎📚

Julia’s Learning is opening doors and creating opportunities for students with intellectual or developmental disabilities to experience college life, build independence, discover their strengths and prepare for meaningful lifelong employment.

Students work toward a two-year certificate while taking inclusive classes, living on campus and participating in the full college experience at Wingate University — in other words, they’ll be Bulldogs! 🐾

Thank you to Melaine Keel for joining Monroe Rotary and sharing more about this incredible program and the impact it will have on students and their families. We’re excited to see Julia’s Learning grow and make a difference in our community! ❤️

Thank you to retired Anson County Sheriff Tommy Allen for joining Monroe Rotary and sharing stories from his book, Beyond the Badge: The Lighter Side of Law Enforcement. His entertaining and heartfelt stories gave us a behind-the-scenes look at life in law enforcement and reminded us that humor can often be found in the most unexpected moments.

As Sheriff Allen put it, “You just can’t make this stuff up!”

Thank you for an engaging program and for sharing your experiences with our club!

Serving our community, one backpack at a time. 🎒💙

Monroe Rotary members came together to donate supplies and pack backpacks for children in foster care across Union County. We hope these backpacks provide not only essential items, but also a reminder that our community cares and is here to support them.

Thank you to everyone who donated their time and generosity to make a difference in the lives of these children. Together, we are living Rotary’s motto of Service Above Self.
