Today's :
Dr. Ida Gray Nelson Rollins DDS
Rollins was Americaโ€™s 1st African-American woman dentist! Though little has been written about her, we know that she came from Cincinnati, Ohio and that she was an orphan born in the early years of freedom from slavery.
She was the 1st African-American woman to graduate from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, the 1st African-American woman to earn a D.D.S. degree, and the 1st African-American woman to practice dentistry in Chicago.
Thank you Monroe High School for participating in this month-long celebration of Black History presented by the MoCo NAACP.
