Just put my “end of season” tomatoes on the stand! Some are very ripe and if you put the green ones on newspaper in the dark, they’ll ripen. Also green tomato relish or salsa is very good. Fried green tomatoes?? 👩‍🌾👨‍🌾🍅‼️🫵🧤

😀🤗🙏🤗Many thanks to all of the many volunteers who were diligent in service to our community and assisted in the multitude of tasks necessary to build, support, and maintain our community garden. You all know who you are!! A special thanks to Jessica, Wyatt and Lee Barnett; Dianna Nolin, & Linda Burton for the help clearing the garden yesterday! Angie King--you made the final clearing easy🙌- Gary Munson-your truck saved me-thank you. The Community Garden is officially "cleared for 2026-our 4th Year." A shout out to June Donahue for her faithful help in covering the Food Pantry’s needs… Also, immensely grateful for Angie King, as she has been working away at the garden almost daily for the past few weeks, give me a much-needed-hiatus to catch-up at home.

It may still feel like summer outside now, but the first frost will creep up on us when we least expect it! And just before frost, you can remove all mature, green tomatoes from the vines to ripen indoors.

Wrap each tomato in newspaper and store them in a cool (60-65F), dark place. Check frequently, and when the tomatoes begin to color, you can remove the newspaper and keep them at room temperature. Another way to ripen green tomatoes indoors is to leave the fruit on the vine and hang the entire plant upside down in a cool, dark location and pick the tomatoes as they ripen.

Last harvest of the season, help yourself to whatever you like, I wasn’t sure about the eggplant, but it was there, so I gathered it up. Whatever is left on the stand on Monday will be gathered and fed to the chickens.  please bring your own containers and do not take ours. We need them.
