We welcome everyone and hope to have some thought-provoking and productive discussions. We do not block anyone from this page unless they are spamming something completely unrelated or attempting to scam people.
2. We leave all comments up, good or bad (unless rule #1 applies).
3. If you do post something incredibly inappropriate, we will leave it up so others can judge you accordingly.
4. We are

not the Facebook Police. We do not verify profiles or prevent people from posting anonymously. This is now posted so please don't complain about it.
5. We will not remove comments because you disagree or are offended. Some discussions can be difficult, but this is how we grow. Feel free to bring up topics that you would like to discuss. We love hearing from you.

Did you know Union County is divided into nine townships?

This system dates back to the years just after the Civil War, when North Carolina counties were divided into townships for local government, elections, roads, schools, and record keeping.

In 1869, Union County was first organized into seven townships: Goose Creek, New Salem, Sandy Ridge, Lanes Creek, Jackson, Buford, and Monroe.

As communities grew and boundaries shifted, new townships were created. In 1879, Vance Township was formed from parts of Goose Creek and Sandy Ridge. Soon after, Marshville Township was carved from sections of Lanes Creek and New Salem.

That brought Union County to the nine townships still remembered today.

More than just lines on a map, these townships tell the story of how Union County grew—one crossroads, farm community, church, schoolhouse, and small town at a time.

⚠️ SLOW MONROE STARTS JUNE 1 ⚠️

The Monroe Police Department has received multiple complaints about speeding throughout the downtown corridor. Radar speed signs have already been placed in the area to remind drivers to slow down and obey the posted speed limits.

Speed continues to be a major factor in serious crashes and dangerous driving complaints. Beginning June 1, officers will increase traffic enforcement efforts as part of the “Slow Monroe” campaign. Slow down, stay alert, and help keep downtown Monroe safe for everyone.

Congratulations!
