Troop 440 participated in the annual Monroe Clean Sweep this morning. Our boys circled the ponds in town and collected numerous bags of garbage, especially inside airplane park. Come on Monroe, we can do better. Let’s all make an effort to pick up our trash.

Unfortunately the turnout was much lower compared to past years. Even the electronic recycling and paper shredding vendors were quiet. Maybe next year with better planning we can even have the Town Highway Dept back again to assist with tire and textile recycling as nobody was there today to help out.

Troop 440 had a great time this past Saturday with an 11 mile New York City urban hike.
We began with a subway ride from Washington Heights to Cadman Plaza in Brooklyn whereby we walked over the Brooklyn Bridge into Manhattan. From there, we hiked from the tip of Manhattan, stopping at numerous attractions along the way, and finally ended at Columbus Circle and Central Park South. The weather was picture perfect and everyone enjoyed the day.

This past weekend, Troop 440-Monroe went backpacking in Harriman State Park - Pine Meadow Lake.
Our Scouts learned the fundamentals of camping in the forest, proper planning, cooking over a campfire, leave no trace and most importantly packing light.
All our scouts had a great time and are already looking forward to our next event.

Last Wednesday, Troop 440 - Monroe welcomed our newest Eagle Scout, Matthew Capps.

Matthew presented himself to the GHVC Delaware-Hudson District Eagle Board for his Board of Review and was elevated to the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout.

Reaching Eagle is not something that happens quickly or easily. It reflects years of dedication, hard work, leadership, service to others and a consistent commitment to living by the Scout Oath and Law. Matt has demonstrated all these qualities throughout his journey, and his efforts were justly recognized.

With this achievement, Matt becomes the 77th Eagle Scout in the proud history of Troop 440, joining a long line of Scouts who have set the bar for leadership, character, success and service within our troop and community.

Congratulations Matt. We are all proud of you and know that you are an inspiration to all the members of Troop 440 who follow your path on their trail to eagle.

This past weekend, March 13-15, members of Troop 440-Monroe went camping with Cub Scout Pack 148-Woodbury at D&H Canal Scout Camp.
All our Scouts, Leaders and Parents had a great time working together on numerous advancement requirements, going on an afternoon hike, cooking lunch over a campfire, eating very well and so much more.
It was great watching our older Scouts working with and mentoring the younger Cub Scouts. Everyone at Troop 440 is already looking forward to our next overnight campout in April on a backpacking trip to Pine Meadow Lake.

On Wednesday, February 11, 2026, Nicholas Doran appeared before the GHVC Eagle Scout District Board for his Board of Review for the rank of Eagle Scout. Troop 440 is pleased to announce that Nicholas Doran passed his board and was elevated to the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest honor in Scouting.

Earning the rank of Eagle Scout is not something that happens overnight. It represents years of steady commitment, quiet perseverance, leadership growth, service to others, and living out the Scout Oath and Law even when no one is watching. Nick has put in that work, step by step, and that dedication was recognized.

With this achievement, Nick becomes the 76th Eagle Scout in the proud history of Troop 440. He now joins a legacy of young men who have set a high standard for character, service, and leadership in our troop and in our community.

Please join Troop 440-Monroe in congratulating Nick on this truly meaningful and well-earned accomplishment.

This past Sunday, February 8th, Troop 440 - Monroe, along with Troop 4 - Woodbury and Cub Scout Pack 148 - Woodbury celebrated Scout Sunday at the Parish of Sacred Heart and St. Patrick.
Scout Sunday is the day when the Boy Scouts of America celebrates it’s founding in America, February 8, 1910. It is a day when Scouts come together in full uniform regardless of faith, with their community, to be recognized for what they stand for and the positivity they bring to their communities. This year celebrates the 116th anniversary of Scouting.

Yesterday evening, Troop 440-Monroe Eagle Scout Candidate Ben Lasala presented himself to the Greater Hudson Valley Council, Delaware-Hudson Eagle Board for consideration of elevation to the rank of Eagle Scout.

Troop 440 is proud to announce that following a successful Board of Review, Ben was elevated to the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank one can earn in Scouting and an achievement earned by only a select few. With this accomplishment, Ben proudly becomes the 75th Eagle Scout of Troop 440, joining an elite legacy of Scouts.

For Ben’s Eagle Scout project, he built a food pantry at Monroe Town Hall with shelving for canned and dry goods as well as a refrigerator for perishable goods to provide for those in our Monroe community in need. Ben also organized a food drive to fill the pantry with food.

Please join us in celebrating and congratulating Ben on this remarkable and well-deserved achievement!

Please consider stopping by Monroe Town Hall and placing food donations directly into the pantry.

The other day, the food pantry at Monroe Town Hall was re-stocked by Troop 440 using foods previously donated during our food drive by our families, friends and neighbors of Monroe.

We ask that everyone please continue to donate food by bringing it directly to the food pantry and placing it inside, especially perishables, which can be put directly into the refrigerator.

We also ask our friends in need to please be courteous and considerate when taking what foods they need to keep the pantry neat and orderly and not to drop food items causing jars and containers to break open. When re-stocking the shelves, we had to clean spilled and damaged foods from the pantry floor and re-organize the shelves. Thank you.

Together, we can all do this to help our Monroe residents in need.

Once again, another annual Troop 440 - Monroe tradition in the books. On December 5-7, we went for our annual weekend camping trip to Camp NoBeBoSco to celebrate the holidays.
Although the temperatures were frigid, it didn’t stop us from having a great time. Each patrol made a warm hearty soup from scratch for our soup challenge cook off contest and there was football and ultimate frisbee on the “A” field in addition to exploring around the camp. It looks totally different this time of year than when we’re here week #5 in the summer.
Of course, you can’t forget all the fun with the great gifts from our Secret Santa/White Elephant. Don’t forget, summer camp back at Camp NoBe is only 6 months away.

Troop 440 - Monroe is pleased to announce that the food pantry at Monroe Town Hall, built by Ben LaSala and Troop 440 - Monroe for his Eagle Scout project, is fully re-stocked again for those of our Monroe friends and neighbors in need. This food pantry is available 24/7.

The food pantry can always use food donations. Please stop by anytime to drop off foods and place them directly into the pantry on the shelves or in the refrigerator/freezer.

Thank you to the American Legion Post 488 for all the food donations collected as part of your food drive.

Thank you again to Town of Monroe Supervisor Tony Cardone for all your support in making this project a reality.
