This past weekend in Colorado Springs, the name of our brother, Firefighter/Paramedic Stanley G. Webb III, was permanently added to the IAFF Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial Wall of Honor.

Stan dedicated 32 years of service to Monroe County and its citizens, beginning with Monroe County EMS in 1990 and continuing his career as a Firefighter/Paramedic with Monroe County Fire Rescue.

His name now stands alongside thousands of our brothers and sisters whose service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

For Stan’s family, his friends, the members who worked beside him, and all of us at Monroe County Professional Firefighters Local 3909, seeing his name etched into that wall is a powerful reminder that although our brothers and sisters may leave us, their legacy remains.

Stan served this community for more than three decades. Now his name will forever have a place of honor among the fallen.

Monroe County Fire Rescue responded to Stock Island (county-side) for a residential structure fire this morning affecting two townhomes and two families. Station 8 crews located a 12-year-old girl on the third floor and removed her from the house. She is in stable condition and was transported to Lower Keys Medical Center. Key West Fire Department and Monroe County Sheriff's Office also responded. Monroe County Fire Marshal is on scene and the state fire marshal will be investigating the incident.

“I’m proud of the swift, professional response by our firefighters and the first responders who worked together at the scene,” said Chief R.L. Colina. “Their coordination and immediate actions made a difference during a very difficult situation."

After more than 25 years of dedicated service to Monroe County Fire Rescue and the Florida Keys, Lieutenant/Paramedic Casey Kyburz has retired from the fire service.

Casey began his career with Monroe County Fire Rescue in 1999 and spent the next 25 years serving the residents and visitors of Monroe County. Over the course of his career, he rose to the rank of Lieutenant/Paramedic and witnessed and helped shape an incredible period of growth within our department.

Among the many chapters of his career, Casey spent 10 years serving with Trauma Star and was a member of the crew on Trauma Star’s very first flight, helping lay the foundation for an air medical program that has since become an essential part of emergency medical care throughout the Florida Keys.

His service to his fellow firefighters extended beyond the firehouse as well. Casey served two terms as Secretary of the Professional Firefighters of Monroe County, IAFF Local 3909, and one term as Vice President, including during the negotiation of our union’s first collective bargaining agreement.

Twenty-five years in the fire service represents thousands of calls, countless shifts, holidays away from family, major storms and emergencies, and an entire generation of firefighters who had the opportunity to work alongside him.

The Professional Firefighters of Monroe County, IAFF Local 3909, congratulate Lt. Casey Kyburz on an incredible career and thank him for his decades of service to our members, our department, and the Florida Keys community.

Enjoy retirement, Lieutenant. You earned it.
