We have an adorable and very sweet male Beagle named Copper who is ready to find his forever home. Weighing just 34 lbs., Copper will melt your heart with his big brown eyes. He gets along well with other dogs and seems fine with cats. Copper came to us from Animal Control as a stray and is estimated to be between 1 and 2 years old. He is fully up to date on vaccinations, neutered, microchipped, has tested negative for heartworm and Lyme disease, and has been treated for fleas and ticks. If you’d like to give Copper a loving home, please fill out an adoption application on our website at wiarrescue.com/adoption. You’re also welcome to visit and meet this sweet boy in person Tuesday through Friday from 11am to 4pm. For any questions, call 309-715-7109 or send us a message.

Handsome Ranger is still searching for his forever home. This 1–2-year-old possible Aussie mix came to us as a stray from Animal Control. He’s playful, energetic, and gets along well with other dogs, and seems fine with cats. Though a bit timid at first, he warms up quickly and loves affection. We suspect he hasn’t had the best life so far, but he truly deserves a loving home. He’s up to date on vaccinations, neutered, microchipped, tested for Heartworm and Lyme, and treated for fleas and ticks. He’s a sweet pup—if interested, stop by to meet him or fill out an adoption application on our website at wiarrescue.com/adoption. Call 309-715-7109 or send us a message with any questions.

Yesterday, four cats were left unattended at Western Illinois Animal Rescue—one during the day and three overnight in separate incidents.

We understand that people sometimes face difficult circumstances and need help with an animal. However, leaving an animal unattended at our facility is not an acceptable way to surrender an animal.

WIAR has limited kennel space, staffing and financial resources. Animals cannot simply be left at the building with the assumption that space is available.

Effective immediately, we are strengthening video surveillance of our property. Unauthorized animal drop-offs will be documented and may be reported to law enforcement.

Illinois law prohibits an owner from abandoning an animal where it may become a public charge or suffer injury, hunger or exposure. Additionally, WIAR is private property and these incidents will constitute trespassing.

If you need assistance with a dog or cat, please contact WIAR before bringing the animal to the rescue. We may not always be able to accept an animal, but contacting us gives everyone an opportunity to discuss available options.

Please do not leave animals unattended at our facility.
