"For menhaden to be a healthy fishery, it must move beyond being simply viewed as a commodity that generates corporate earnings or tons of fishmeal. The public should expect that the ASMFC will consider the entire coastal ecosystem when making decisions about the harvest of menhaden. The time to make conservation concessions that recognize the greater ecosystem services that menhaden provide is now."

The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission, of which Delaware is a member state, is scheduled to meet in November in Newport, Rhode Island.

In a win for Maine’s waters, a judge has ruled that CLF’s lawsuit against Cooke Aquaculture can move forward – bringing us one step closer to holding one of the world’s largest salmon producers accountable for Clean Water Act violations.

Cooke operates 13 salmon farms along Maine’s coast, where millions of salmon are raised in massive cages. Beneath those cages? Fish waste, uneaten food, and dead fish accumulating on the seafloor and polluting the waters that Maine’s communities, lobstermen, fishermen, and wildlife depend on.

The fight for clean water goes on. 💪🌊
