Gabe's Gift Memorial 5K Race

Gabe's Gift Memorial 5K Race Gabriel was a creative and imaginative young boy whose sudden diagnosis of alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma in April 2009 shocked our local community.

In memory of Gabriel Perkins, a student from the Moline School District and son of Matthew and Leslie Perkins, who passed away from cancer in 2010, you are invited to become a sponsor or contributor to the Gabe’s Gift Memorial 5K / 1-Mile Race. Money raised will be used to help Quad Cities families that are dealing with the devastating diagnosis of pediatric cancer and, in particular, those famili

es that have lost a child to cancer. He spent the following 16 months putting up a valiant fight against these aggressive tumors while inspiring all who came into contact with him to live life to its fullest and to make a difference in the life of others. One of Gabe’s greatest joys was to witness someone opening a gift in which he took at least some part in creating. We’ve made it our mission to put our efforts toward providing what is necessary for devastated families to experience at least a little bit of joy during their most trying times. We are very excited that this will be our 8th annual race, which will be held on Saturday, September 10th, 2022 at Jane Addams Elementary School. This 5K race will be followed by a timed 1-mile fun run for all participants. All children 12 and under crossing the finish line of the mile fun run will receive a prize. Based on the importance of this cause and the wide network of friends willing to participate, we are hoping for another terrific turnout for this event and are asking for your help as well. All proceeds from this event will go to Tudi’s Tribe, a local charitable organization that supports families of kids with cancer.

As Gabe's Gift continues to grow, we're excited to share that we have some new ideas and fun changes in the works! To give us the time needed to thoughtfully plan and create an even more meaningful experience, we've made the difficult—but positive—decision to pause the Gabe's Gift Race for 2026.

While we will certainly miss gathering with all of you this year, we're looking ahead with excitement and can't wait to share what's coming for 2027!

In the meantime, we'd love for our amazing Gabe's Gift community to help us honor Gabe in a special way on September 6th, on what would have been his 24th birthday. 💚

Put on your favorite green shirt and head out for a run, walk, or bike ride in memory of Gabe and all our special warriors who we honor with the race. Whether you go one mile or ten, by yourself or with family and friends, your participation keeps Gabe's spirit and our mission alive.
