✨70 Years of Impact: Stories That Shape Junior Achievement 💙

Sheila Volrath first got introduced to Junior Achievement through the late Jim Victor, a tremendous longtime supporter of JA. She began by volunteering in the classroom, talking with students about business and entrepreneurship, and has continued supporting JA through the years as both a volunteer and donor.

Today, Sheila volunteers at Junior Achievement Finance Park, where the Volrath Castle Group at Morgan Stanley sponsors a suite. She loves seeing how experiences like JA Finance Park and JA BizTown build on classroom lessons and give students the chance to put what they’ve learned into action.

We’re grateful for Sheila and the part she has played in JA’s 70-year story.

✨70 Years of Impact: Stories That Shape Junior Achievement 💙

Before it was Junior Achievement BizTown, it was JA Exchange City. And nearly 30 years ago, Clint Christopher was one of the educators helping bring it to life.

As a brand-new teacher, Clint was invited to be part of a pilot program that would become what we know today as Junior Achievement BizTown. He helped test the curriculum with students, watched the program take shape and saw firsthand the impact of giving students the chance to learn by doing.

That early experience became a connection to Junior Achievement that continued throughout his career and eventually led him to serve on the JA South Region Board.

Did you know there are more than 100 JA Area Offices across the United States? Together, they make up the JA USA network, which is part of the global JA Worldwide network reaching more than 100 countries.

Today, we’re sharing the story of a JA USA team member who started her JA journey as a student right here in Davenport.

Grace first experienced JA as a fifth-grader where she became the Town Treasurer at JA BizTown. Years later, as an elementary teacher, she brought JA into her own classrooms. Today, she continues that work as part of the JA USA national team.

Through every stage, she’s seen the same impact: helping students see opportunities they may not have considered before and giving them the confidence to imagine what’s possible.

"As one of the first fourth graders to experience JA BizTown in downtown Davenport, Iowa, I had the privilege of stepping into the role of journalist and discovering the fundamentals of financial literacy and resource management. Those lessons did not simply stay in the classroom; they have shaped how I approach decisions throughout my life. That lasting impact is exactly why I now give back as an active Junior Achievement classroom volunteer. As Junior Achievement celebrates 70 years of empowering lives in our community, my hope is simple: to be for a child today what Junior Achievement was for me, a spark that changes the way they see their future."
