📣 Calling all Mokena-area students in grades 6–12! The VFW's national essay contests are open, and entries are due to Post 725 by midnight, Oct. 31, 2026.

This year's theme: "What a Veteran Taught Me About America"

🎙️ Voice of Democracy (grades 9–12): record a 3–5 minute audio essay (MP3) and include a typed copy. The national first-place scholarship is $35,000, and every state winner receives at least $1,000 plus a trip.

✍️ Patriot's Pen (grades 6–8): write a typed essay of 300–400 words. National first place is $5,000, and every state winner receives at least $500.

Your student doesn't need to have met a veteran to enter. The veteran they write about can be a grandparent who's no longer with us, someone whose story the family still tells, or a figure from history.

MILITARY, GUNS & HOSES — FREE ADMISSION

To our servicemen and women, we say thank you. Come spend a day on the farm, on us.

Active military, veterans, police officers and firefighters get free admission to Pumpkin Fest. Just bring your active ID or veteran ID to the gate.

There's a piece of history here that makes this one feel right. The barn you'll walk through was rebuilt by hand in 1941 — and one half of it was rescued from a neighboring farm before that land was taken to build the Joliet Army Am******on Plant. Grandpa Frank Siegel took it apart, hauled it over, and put it back together with wooden pegs. It's still standing.

Eighty-five years later, we'd like to say thanks in the only way a farm really can: a day out in the country air, a hayrack ride, and a pumpkin to take home.
