The Amos Lemon Burkhart Foundation

The Amos Lemon Burkhart Foundation We inspire teens to STAY ALIVE and MAKE ART. Amos Lemon Burkhart was a young artist who died tragically as a result of mental illness and substance use in 2018.

His work and story are a gateway to enlightened conversations about sensitive topics. Contact us to bring our immersive, hands-on exhibit to your school or organization. We offer a turnkey exhibit, best for destinations that have teen visitors or want to engage this audience. We also do on-site workshops at schools, institutions, and community centers. Our exhibit is designed for teens 13-19. Call or email Ann!

What a good job our Bob-Ross-like instructors did tonight! We had a great turnout, almost ran out of canvases, and produced many mini-masterpieces. Plus there was laughter and delicious COOKIES! Let’s do it all again!

Every year we Amos sends us a new group of young artists. They bring so much talent, curiosity and joy to our lives and brighten the place up! Without their hard work we couldn’t do half the activities we do. So happy to meet some of them today!

Congratulations to our former intern and long-time show installer / workshop moderator / in-house graphic designer / on-demand artmaker / middleschool-kid-wrangler / emotional support person, Michael Strain! 🌱

He just got a big-boy JOB as a graphic designer for the Goggleworks Center for the Arts () , a wonderful community resource and inspiring place to learn and practice the arts. We wish him a prosperous future! 💚

Today, we honor our friend, volunteer, and artist donor Matt Salvadore 💚

Matt literally wandered in to our offices one day, as he lived nearby and was intrigued by the ALBF art van. He hung around and we got to know him as a friend , an artist, and a volunteer. He helped us get ready for our big fall party, donated a beautiful painting to the auction, spent several full days helping us install a mural at the TBI unit at Reading Rehabilitation Hospital, and even created a piece about Amos that he gave to Dane as a gift.

Matt was funny, a great storyteller, a good listener, an encyclopedia of musical trivia, and an all-around big hearted-man. We are so sad that he is gone; another tragedy for art and the world. Stick together, kids! Please reach out to us and never be afraid to get as much help as you need. Love you, Matt. 💚💚

Amos loved the Louis Armstrong song, "Wonderful World", as sung by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. He claimed it is guaranteed to make a terrible day better.

Inspiration is everywhere, if you take the time to look. Set your phone timer for three minutes and set it down. Do a slow motion 360-degree scan of everything around you, from clouds to the sidewalk. What is right in front of you that you never noticed?

"The colors of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky,
Are also on the faces of people passing by.
I see friends shaking hands saying "How do you do?"
They're really saying "I, I love you..."
