Bringing Soil Health Learning to Central NY 👨‍🌾

Tap Root Fields is a regenerative agriculture farm fostering healthy food systems. As a research-driven farm, we have been proud to incorporate our trusted equipment and data services into their organics recycling operations delivering higher-quality compost with greater nutritional benefits. We had the pleasure of hosting a Soil Health Learning Session.

The day was filled with:
✅Hands-on learning workshop;
✅Live equipment demonstration;
✅Guided farm tour

Stay tuned for more sessions for Regenerative-Ag Learning Series!

And if you're passionate about healthy soils or organic recycling, let's connect. We support growers, government and recyclers for healthier land and food.

I believe…
The term “composting” may be limiting the potential and successful expansion in communities as it is often associated with small-scale backyard practices rather than a signifiant opportunity for landfill reduction, lowered methane emissions, and creation of green jobs.

🏔 Green Mountain Compost is a public facility in Williston, Vt. We had the privilege of touring this facility as an extension of the Vermont Organics Recycling Summit.

Phase 1: Collection and Initial Processing
Community food scraps are collected onsite ensuring a supervised and clean stream. Landscapers also bring material which is turned into mulch. These carbon and nitrogen sources are initially mixed into an ASP (Aerated Static Pile) system using positive aeration, a key factor for aerobic decomposition. The facility has 6 bays which holds 300+ yards per bay.

Phase 2: Aeration and Maturation
Material undergoes further aeration and is placed into another bay-type system without aeration. This next phase is ~3 weeks.

Phase 3: Screening and Curing:
After the aeration process, compost is ready for screening. 2-inch screen is used to remove large debris, and 3/8-inch screen to create finer material and remove possible contaminates. The double screening process creates a premium nutrient-rich end product.

This facility exemplifies a municipal opportunity creating revenue and local green careers through the process of turning food scraps into a value-add product. Thank you for the team in hosting along with Brian at Agrilab Technologies Inc. Also attending TAWA Compost

Engaging fun learning session at the Rye Nature Center where participants explored how to compost safely in one's backyard and community. The hands-on workshop explored topics of soil sampling, 2-bin system vs. tumbler, appropriate items that decompose into compost bin, and more.

Thank you for hosting us Friends of Rye Nature Center ! 🐦
