KORC - Keweenaw Outdoor Recreation Coalition

KORC - Keweenaw Outdoor Recreation Coalition KORC is a coalition of Keweenawan's and friends who are dedicated to preserving access to our lands for recreation, science, and protection of our environment.

The Keweenaw Outdoor Recreation Coalition was created in 2019 to bring together a variety of user groups with one shared goal: to protect the Keweenaw's vast landscapes for everyone, forever. Whether you bike, snowmobile, hunt, hike, or birdwatch, we need your help to make this vision a reality. Whether you are a powder hound on skis or a hunter that values well-managed and undeveloped forests, pr

otecting the Keweenaw's at-risk landscapes is vital if we are to preserve our local traditions. The loss of lands owned by absentee investment firms affects us all. It is for this reason that we have united to stand up for our entire community. By bringing together groups under our umbrella, the Keweenaw Outdoor Recreation Coalition can speak with one voice to better advocate for our shared interests. Become a member today! Any level of support is welcome, but your membership is key to the mission of KORC. www.keweenawoutdoorrecreation.org/support

🙂 THANK YOU!!!

📣 The 6th annual KORC Keweenaw Clean-Up and Community Picnic was a huge success!

🗑️ Approximately 4,300 pounds of trash (including 27 tires!) was removed from trails, parks, beaches, woods, and road sides all across the Keweenaw.

❇️ Over 75 volunteers attended the event. Organizations and individuals started from a variety of locations to maximize the effectiveness of the collective effort. Together they collected and removed over 4,300 pounds of trash from cherished public spaces in the Keweenaw.

❇️ After the Clean-Up, volunteers came together in the Donny Kilpela Memorial Park in Copper Harbor to celebrate at the Community Picnic.

👏 KORC appreciates all of the individuals, families, clubs, organizations, and local businesses who generously donated time, equipment, food, drinks, supplies, and raffle prizes that make this event possible. Your community spirit and volunteer action continue to keep the Keweenaw clean!

We were honored to participate in the MADE U.P. Outdoor Summit held in Marquette last week!

🟢 We joined other organizations, community members, and outdoor leaders from throughout the Upper Peninsula in making connections, sharing ideas, and engaging in crucial discussions regarding the future of outdoor recreation and community building in the U.P.

👏 Thanks to Todd Poquette and MADE U.P. Podcast for inviting us to present and share what KORC is about, and for bringing everyone together!

We'd like to welcome CopperDog to the Coalition!

Last week CopperDog attended the MADE U.P. Outdoor Summit put on by the 906 Adventure Team at Northern Michigan University.

It was amazing... but what did we get out of it?

Well... If we, as an organization, are serious and want to be stewards and leaders around the sport of sled dog racing, there was not a more obvious choice than to be proactive and intentional about the protection of the land, and the access to the land, we use. Not only for our event but also for biking, hiking, birdwatching, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, ORVing, etc. You get the point.

So as of today CopperDog is a member of KORC - Keweenaw Outdoor Recreation Coalition and will be attending their steering committee meetings. And we are doing this FOR ALL. Yes, you too!

With this decision, we will be a force in also preserving our history, culture, and way of life. Copper Country Forever!!

CONSERVATION. SUSTAINABILITY. COMMUNITY. ADVENTURE.

➡️ The MADE U.P. Outdoor Summit starts tomorrow in Marquette – and you can catch a KORC keynote speech on Friday from 8:45-9:30am. We'll also have an informational booth set up, and we look forward to connecting with everyone!

Thanks to Todd Poquette and MADE U.P. Podcast for bringing everyone together!

The MADE U.P. Outdoor Summit starts tomorrow at Northern Michigan University’s Jacobetti Complex.

Over the next two days, community members, organizations, and outdoor leaders from across the Upper Peninsula will come together to share ideas, build connections, and have important conversations about the future of outdoor recreation and the communities connected to it.

We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone to Marquette and continuing the conversation around the places, traditions, and opportunities that make the U.P. unique.
