PUBLIC SAFETY ALERT – IMPERSONATION SCAM

The Mohawk PBA and the Mohawk Police Department are issuing an urgent warning to residents of Mohawk and surrounding communities regarding recent reports of individuals impersonating law enforcement officers.

The Department has received multiple reports that unknown persons are contacting members of the public by telephone and falsely identifying themselves as representatives of the Mohawk Police Department and, in some instances, as members of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). These individuals have allegedly made false claims involving fabricated accidents, criminal allegations, and threats of arrest. In some cases, they have demanded payment or attempted to coerce compliance by falsely stating that law enforcement will respond to a residence to effect an arrest if certain demands are not met.

The Mohawk Police Department emphasizes that no law enforcement agency will contact individuals by telephone to demand payment of fines, bail, fees, or any other form of monetary compensation, nor will any legitimate agency threaten immediate arrest in this manner.

Residents are strongly urged to exercise caution. Do not engage with, provide personal information to, or make any payments to individuals making such claims. If you receive a suspicious call or text message of this nature, terminate the communication immediately.

If you believe the contact may have some legitimacy, contact your local agency via their non-emergency phone number or the Mohawk Police Department directly through our non-emergency line at 315-866-3492.

Winter Weather Reminder ❄️

Over the past several weeks, our area has experienced multiple snowstorms. While out and about, Officers have received complaints or overheard resident’s complaints while in public, regarding sidewalk snow removal. We understand these concerns regarding sidewalk snow removal and the timing or other concerns of DPW’s services that residents may have and believe there is some misconceptions about the DPW’s roles/responsibilities.

We’d like to take a moment to clarify responsibilities and provide helpful information so residents clearly understand local laws and expectations during winter weather events.

While the Village DPW does make efforts to clear sidewalks, this service is a courtesy and not a requirement. During snow events, DPW’s primary responsibility is maintaining roadways to ensure safe travel and emergency access which, is not a small task. With a limited number of employees, sidewalks are a secondary effort once roads have been addressed.

Under Village Code, the responsibility for sidewalk snow and ice removal rests with property owners and occupants. Which is consistent across most municipalities.

The applicable local laws are provided below exactly as written:
________________________________________

Chapter 137
STREETS AND SIDEWALKS
Article II
§ 137-6. Duty to keep sidewalks clear.
Every person who is an owner or occupant of land fronting on sidewalks in the Village of Mohawk shall cause said sidewalks in front thereof and on the same side of the street or road as said lands so owned or occupied to be cleared of snow and ice and to be kept clear of snow and ice.

§ 137-7. Penalties for offenses.
Any person violating any provision of this Article shall be punishable by a penalty and fine not exceeding the sum of two hundred fifty dollars ($250.) for each offense or imprisonment for not more than fifteen (15) days, or both.
________________________________________

Additionally, residents are reminded of the following regulation regarding vehicles during snowstorms and other public emergencies:

ARTICLE VIII
Impoundment of Vehicles
§ 150-16. Authority to impound.
A. When any vehicle is parked or abandoned on any street or highway within this village during a snowstorm, flood, fire or other public emergency which affects that portion of the public street or highway upon which said vehicle is parked or abandoned, said vehicle may be removed by order of the Chief of Police of the village.

💡 Helpful Tip for PC/Laptop Users:
If interested, when viewing the Village Code on a computer, you can press CTRL + F at the same time to search for specific words or topics within the document. This can help you quickly locate sections related to sidewalks, snow removal, parking, or other areas of interest.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation during winter weather. Please help us help you, keep your vehicles off the roadway during and immediately after snow storms. The Village DPW continues to work diligently under challenging conditions, and resident assistance with sidewalk maintenance plays an important role in keeping our community safe.

Thank you for your understanding and for helping keep the Village of Mohawk safe this winter.

What's up, witches, ghouls, spooks, and ghosts?! We, the Mohawk Police Benevolent Association, are here to deliver the lowdown on tonight's festivities so your night is more "treat" and less "trick" (especially the kind involving a tow truck!).

🍬 The Candy Countdown:
Trick-or-Treating Time: 🧛 From 1700 (5 PM) to 1900 (7 PM). Get those pillowcases ready!
Parade & Candy Handout: 🍭 The Mohawk Community Club is hosting their annual event at the FD bays. Fingers crossed the weather cooperates! If it's a go, be there for the parade and a sweet score!

🚨 The Midnight Menace (AKA: Parking Rules!)
Listen up, residents and visitors: While you're enjoying the late-night sugar rush, remember the most terrifying rule of all... THE ALL-NIGHT PARKING BAN!
When it Kicks In: ⏰ Tonight at the stroke of Midnight until April 1, 2026!
The Scary Part: 🚗 Any vehicle lingering on the street between 0200 (2 AM) and 0600 (6 AM) will be required to make a... shall we say... "donation to the court."

Please have a SAFE and wonderfully Happy Halloween! Stay warm, watch out for little monsters crossing the street, and let's keep the only boos coming from the haunted houses!

10/27/2025

It's that time of year again......beginning at 12AM Saturday, November 1st 2025, no all-night parking on any village street is in effect.
This will end on April 1st 2026, unless otherwise noted due to extreme weather.
Thank you for your cooperation!
