Investing in Health – Inside and Beyond the Exam Room: Gould Medical Group

Founded in 1948, Gould Medical Group is a Modesto-based multispecialty physician group with more than 500 providers serving patients across the Central Valley. As the group continued to grow, its physician leaders began asking a simple but profound question: How can we, as a medical community, do more to strengthen the region we call home?

That question led to the formation of a philanthropy committee to explore how the group’s collective impact could extend beyond clinical walls.

A recent $50,000 investment from Stanislaus Community Foundation's Civic Solutions Fund is expanding learning from classrooms to local newsrooms.

The latest edition of Stan Magazine highlights how Stanislaus State's Creative Media Program is creating real-world opportunities in journalism and media for students. Through paid internships with local outlets, students are working alongside veteran journalists – gaining hands-on experience, mentorship, and the chance to tell meaningful stories that are rooted in their own community.

Ella Adams, an intern at the Modesto Focus, shared, "It means more when you’re reporting on your own community. You care more because these are your people."

The Stanislaus Community Foundation team hit the town today for a little bit of fun! First, we got our creative juices flowing at Beads of Contentment, where we each made our own uniquely beautiful piece of jewelry. We then headed over to the Dragonfly Tea Room to enjoy a whimsical UnBirthday Afternoon Tea Party – complete with drinks and treats inspired by Alice in Wonderland.

It was the perfect morning spent building connections with each other and supporting a couple of our community's local businesses! 💜

The Stanislaus Community Foundation (SCF) team was excited to attend the unveiling of the Modesto Police Department’s new lowrider cruiser – a project rooted in building trust with local law enforcement and honoring the lowrider culture that has long been part of our community.

Behind the finished car is a story that makes it even more meaningful. Several Modesto High School students took on the restoration of the retired Crown Victoria, gaining hands-on experience that pushed them beyond the classroom and into real-world learning – growing not just technical skills, but confidence, curiosity, and a sense of what’s possible for their future.

What started as an idea among four friends grew into a true community effort, with partners across education, local government, business, and philanthropy stepping in to help bring it to life. Support from the Olson Family Fund at SCF helped carry that vision forward, ensuring students had the resources to see this project through.

The lowrider is more than just a car – it’s a reflection of what’s possible when a community comes together around a shared purpose. SCF is proud to invest in initiatives that give our youth the opportunity to thrive.
