If you have not yet been to a Poetry Slam (on Rye), this would be a good opportunity to start! Our Featured Poet this month all the way from Fresno is the incomparable Lady K! She is a nationally ranked spoken word artist from the Central Valley and we are elated to hear her whole set.

In addition to our featured spoken word artist, open mic poets may sign up to read. If you've never been to a Poetry Slam, this is the competitive art of Poetry performance. Poet will have three minutes to recite one original poem, and the audience will hold up scorecard like the Olympics to determine the winners. $200 is on the line for first place and $50 goes to second place. We will also be accompanied by DJ Jimmy Jimmy who always brings the vibes.

Join us for an epic oetry party. $10 at the door. Free with Student ID.

Write Night is such an incredible and simple night and one of the very first events we ever coordinated as the Modesto Artists Movement. This is a small but mighty group of individuals looking to create and connect, to write and to reflect. This type of event is never about the numbers and more about the impact.

We believe that writing saves lives and we believe that art can transform a community, and by sharing our work and our words, we are building something great together.

Last night was a testament to the fact that "a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has" (Margaret Mead).

Shout out to the for hosting this gathering and to the writers, new and seasoned, for their incredible vulnerability, creativity, and courage to share.

— Margaret Mead

Looking for a free community creative writing workshop? Join us tonight at Queen Bean from 6–9 PM for WRITE NIGHT — a chill evening to write, share, reflect, and connect with fellow creatives.

Tonight’s theme will explore metaphors and this essential writing concept: “The bigger the issue, the smaller you write.”

Whether you’re a seasoned writer, a journal keeper, songwriter, poet, student, or just creatively curious, come grab a latte and spend the evening creating with community.
