GSSC Pieces of The Past #9: This months delectable delicacy comes from the 50th Anniversary Reproduction of the 1925 Fire Prevention Cookbook published by the Women’s Auxiliary- Modesto Fire Department in Modesto, Ca. These rousing cookbook pages offer not only a glimpse of vintage recipes, but of local businesses and residents from a bygone era.

GSSC Pieces of the Past #8: This beautiful head stone can be found in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Knights Ferry. It appears to be the final resting place of two souls killed in mining claims in the 1800’s.

GSSC Pieces of the Past #7: This rousing read was recently found in a thrift store in the Stanislaus County town of Modesto. It is a compilation of a family history that spans over 200 years. The family names discussed in this history are listed in the pictures.

GSSC Pieces of the Past #5: Happy New Year Genealogy Lovers! This month is a special month to the Genealogy Society. It’s our Birthday! We were founded in 1968, so this year we are 58 Years old! To celebrate, this month’s Pieces of the Past are 1968 newspaper clippings from September, October, and November of advertisements of our very first meetings.
