Addressing severe regional talent shortages requires more than just conversation—it demands direct collaboration between industry and education leaders. We were honored to be invited by Fred Rasuli (BBSIModesto-Stockton ), Convener for Workforce Development ’s Construction Sector Strategies, to take an active seat at the table.

Today, SPIE was proud to coordinate and lead an Industry-to-Education Construction Sector Tour across Modesto City Schools and Ceres USD .

Joined by local construction leaders, workforce development champions, and secondary and post-secondary education partners, we spent the day getting an up-close look at the incredible CTE programs training our region’s future workforce:

Robert Elliott Alternative Education Center (MCS): State-of-the-art Construction and Electrical & Solar facility.
Downey High School (MCS): Multi-year Construction Technology and Agricultural Mechanics programs.
Access Industrial Training (Access Electric, Ceres):
Employer-based facility where Ceres High CTE students receive hands-on, on-site industry training during their school day.
Ceres High School (Ceres USD): Triple-pathway hub, featuring Construction, Ag Mechanics & Welding, and MPGT Academy (Manufacturing, Production, and Green Technology).

Thank you to Ratto Bros. for hosting our recent Educator Industry Tours with educators from Modesto City Schools, Turlock Unified School District, and Ceres Unified School District!

Andrew Ratto welcomed our Educators, Counselors, Career Navigators, and Youth Advisors for a behind-the-scenes look at the journey from field to fork. From processing and food safety to equipment, sales, and distribution, our group explored the many moving parts of the agriculture industry and the diverse career pathways it offers.

We’re grateful to Andrew and the Ratto Bros. team for their hospitality and for helping us connect classroom learning to real-world careers!

Strong partnerships turn good ideas into real opportunities for local students. This is what it looks like when we invest in homegrown talent together!

This summer, Stanislaus Community Foundation joined students, families, schools, and employers to celebrate San Joaquin A+'s first cohort in Stanislaus County.

Funded in part by a $100,000 grant from our Leadership and Education in Ag Fund (LEAF), and made possible with Stanislaus Partners In Education, the pilot introduced 193 students from five local schools to careers in agriculture. Fifteen went on to complete paid internships with employers like Blue Diamond Growers, Fastenal, and Dave Wilson Nursery, gaining real workplace experience, new mentors, and a clearer view of where their futures could lead.

Our ag economy thrives on homegrown talent, and it starts with young people who get to see themselves in these careers early.

We're still thinking about what a great day this was.

The first North Valley Manufacturing Summit brought together students, educators, manufacturers, workforce leaders, and community partners from across our region. With a shared investment in creating more opportunities for our students and strengthening the future of our workforce, we spent our day together.

A huge thank you to Stacey Kollmeyer Johnson and the Manufacturers Council of the Central Valley for dreaming big with us and helping turn this idea into a reality. Thank you to the incredible team at Capitol Impact, and to every partner, sponsor, exhibitor, speaker, volunteer, educator, manufacturer, and student who had a hand in making the day what it was.

One of the best parts was simply watching the connections happen... Students having real conversations with employers, educators learning alongside industry, and partners from across the North Valley finding new ways to work together.

Nearly 500 people came through the doors, but what we hope lasts much longer are the relationships, ideas, and opportunities that walked out with them.

We couldn’t have asked for a better first Summit. Thank you to everyone who was part of it. We can’t wait to see where we go from here!

We just wrapped up an incredible two-part tour focused on our local manufacturing sector, and yesterday was SO GREAT!

Last week, we kicked things off by taking Modesto City Schools CTE educators and site counselors on industry site tours at Pacific Southwest Container, Fastenal Company, and GALLO so they could see the manufacturing industry in action.

Yesterday, we flipped the script and brought our local community and manufacturing leaders directly into several Modesto City Schools classrooms! Our guests got to see our rigorous Career Technical Education (CTE) programs in action at Beyer, Downey, and Johansen High Schools.

One of the highlights from the last two weeks was watching our educators and local business leaders brainstorm ways to partner up and build a strong talent pipeline for our students as we get ready for the 26-27 school year. This is exactly what the Modesto City Schools "Map Your Mission" initiative is all about—helping students discover and prepare for their future post high school.
