F.R.E.E. Furnace Creek 508 A RACE ACROSS THE CALIFORNIA DESERT TO END SLAVERY Every year, hundreds of thousands of people are trafficked and exploited as slaves around our world.

Human trafficking is illegal and the number of those trafficked annually is difficult to determine. Here in the United States, figures vary from 14,500 to 20,000 but many experts consider the numbers to be significantly higher. Victims of human trafficking are found in s*x trade industries, restaurants, on farms, in manufacturing, as private domestic workers and in sweatshops. 80% of those traffic

ked are women and 50% of those are minors. FREE International believes ending modern day slavery is not just an ideal but a possibility, in that so many individuals are not satisfied with merely learning the truth about modern day slavery. Instead, they are asking the question, "What can I do to help?"

WIthout Permission sole purpose is to end slavery in America. They have taken a big step forward by bringing awareness to the Northern region of California. They plan to have their 1st law enforcement training on human trafficking in October 2011 and host events that reach out to women trapped in prostitution. Jim Pyatt, a Modesto native, has given his answer by entering the Furnace Creek 508 Bicycle Race on October 8-10, 2011. This 508-mile bicycle race is revered the world over for its epic mountain climbs, stark desert scenery, desolate roads, and its reputation as one of the toughest but most gratifying endurance challenges available, bar none. The course has a total elevation gain of over 35,000', crosses ten mountain passes, and stretches from Santa Clarita (just north of Los Angeles), across the Mojave Desert, through Death Valley National Park and Mojave National Preserve, to Twentynine Palms, all in 48 hours.
