The Upper Hudson Valley CLC hosted their annual Labor Heroes dinner on June 12th. Many influential labor leaders were honored, including NYSUT’s own Matt Haynes, ED 13/14 director. It was a wonderful night and such a pleasure to honor these union advocates!

🎉 Celebrating Excellence in Teaching 🎉

The WTA is very proud to share the wonderful news about our fellow teacher, Marie Lysandrou!

Marie has been named the recipient of the 2026 Mid-Hudson School Study Council Teaching Excellence Award — and we couldn’t be happier for her!

This award is designed to recognize teachers who have demonstrated excellence in achieving the educational mission at their district level and recognizes educators who go above and beyond for their students and truly make a difference in their schools. Anyone who knows Marie sees that dedication every single day. She brings passion, care, and commitment to her students and to our entire school community.

Being recognized by the Mid-Hudson School Study Council is such a meaningful honor, and it reflects the impact Marie has made not just in her classroom, but across our district.

Marie, we celebrate you and all that you do. This is so well deserved, and we are lucky to learn and grow alongside you every day.

❤️ Congratulations! ❤️

The WTA proudly celebrates Mrs. Auringer for giving her students an unforgettable hands-on learning experience at her farm! From beekeeping and planting to tractor demonstrations and harvesting crops, students learned the value of hard work, agriculture, and community. Even better, the harvested plants were donated to support the Senior Class fundraiser — a true example of education, generosity, and community spirit in action. We are proud to stand with educators like Mrs. Auringer who go above and beyond for their students every day!

The WTA is proud of our High School Conservation Adv teacher Kyle Ferraiolo and his students for an incredible accomplishment! 🌎♻️
What started as an ambitious classroom project turned into a schoolwide success story. Through student-led outreach, collaboration between the middle and high school, and support from faculty and staff, they collected over 1,000 pounds of plastic film for the NexTrex recycling program — earning a new outdoor bench for our campus near the tennis courts!
Even more impressive, students estimate they helped keep 6,000–8,000 cubic feet of plastic out of local landfills. This project is a great example of the creativity, leadership, and community-building happening in our schools every day.
And the work isn’t over yet! Plastic collection will continue through the end of the school year, and every additional 250 pounds collected earns another entry into a NexTrex raffle for more benches and prizes for our schools. Amazing work by Mr. Ferraiolo, his students, and everyone who helped make this happen! NYSUT - A Union of Professionals

The WTA encourages all Wallkill residents and WTA members to make their voices heard by getting out to vote in next week’s local school budget vote. These decisions impact our students, schools, and community, and every vote matters. Participating in the process is one of the best ways to support our school community and make your voice count. We hope to see strong community participation on voting day!
