Surgery Update: Dental surgery went well, he only had to have four teeth pulled. One canine was was really bad so he should be feeling a lot better. Couldn't find anything impacted. Did all kinds of x-rays. His front left leg was probably broken at one time but now it's healed and he has arthritis in that knee which probably explains why his gate is a little off. Blood work isn't too bad, he's only in first stage kidney disease. He's no longer anemic. So he's in pretty good shape now! The bill was $1,300 if anyone would like to contribute. The vet tech said he was the sweetest cat ever!! 🥰🐈🤗

UPDATE: He's cleared for surgery! Woohoo! Yay Charlie! 🥰🐈💓💗🙏🏻

It's Charlie's dental surgery day! They're going to do repeat blood work to see if he's cleared for surgery. Say a prayer! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 Charlie and Rumsey Ridge Rescue thank you for your support! 🥰🐈

Well this wasn't part of my Memorial Day plans, using five kittens found in a shed as bait to trap their mama! Another good mama!! Thank goodness we have found a rescue to foster. Thank you, Jamie Tomlin and neighbors!

Saw a post last week about a mama cat with 7️⃣ kittens but then she hid them under the porch, where we couldn't get them. Well yesterday she moved them again, and the caretakers scooped them up! I was able to use them as bait and trap the mama cat within minutes! Good Mama cat! A rescue has agreed to take them, and mama will be spayed and returned to the caretaker after babies are weaned. Can you imagine having to take care of seven babies?! 🙀

Pets Alive is hands down the best shelter I've ever seen. Every single person involved with the shelter is a volunteer. That means that all the money that is raised goes directly to the cats' care. The cages are large and always clean, and the cats get let out to run around and socialize all the time. They have lots of stimulating toys and treats, and healthy food options. I'm always impressed by the care that goes into matching the cats with the right family. That's why when we, Rumsey Ridge Rescue, transfer cats to their care, we know those cats will find the best home possible, not just any home. Please consider a donation, no matter what amount or what frequency, to this incredible organization so it can continue the priceless service it provides to cats everyday! Over the past few months, our rescue went through an abrupt leadership transition that left us in a very difficult position financially and operationally. At one point, we faced the painful question of whether we could realistically continue forward at all.

But closing our doors would have meant giving up on cats who still deserve a chance. So, of course, we’ve chosen to keep fighting for them! ❤️

Right now, the cats in our care rely on us every day for:
🥣 food and litter
💊 medication and medical care
💉 vaccines and veterinary treatment
🧹 cleaning and shelter maintenance
❤️ safety, stability, and compassion

Many of the cats in our care are not easy or immediate adoptions. Some come to us with medical needs, trauma, behavioral challenges, or simply need extra time, patience, and socialization before they are ready for homes.
And we believe those cats deserve a chance too 🩵

We also take pride in carefully matching cats with the right families rather than rushing adoptions. Over the years, we’ve learned that thoughtful placements usually lead to happier homes and fewer returns, even if it sometimes means cats stay with us a little longer while waiting for the right fit 🏡

Right now, we’re working hard not only to get through kitten season, but to rebuild the organization into something stronger, safer, and more sustainable for the future.

In the coming days, many supporters will receive our annual fundraising mailer, which unfortunately did not get out during this past holiday season despite how much we depend on it each year. Now that we’ve stabilized operations, we’re hoping this fundraiser can help us continue what we’ve started, rebuilding for the future.

Last week using my grant money. Got 7 cats spayed and neutered on Monday including one pregnant female, one female in heat who has recently had a litter (that we will keep an eye out for), one old man that had a bad mouth over the winter but no longer has mouth issues and is in good body condition (yay!), and the other four were all males. Please spay and neuter all your pets and encourage everyone you know to do so as well even if it's a stray, neighborhood cat! We can only do this if we all work together!

Action shot of one of the cats I trapped a couple nights ago. He was somewhat friendly so I wasn't sure whether I should take him in or not; sometimes they're already neutered...but he wasn't! Good call!! Yay! 🐈‍⬛️✂️

Finally trapped this beautiful, spicy male cat in Niagara Falls, who I was celebrating was the last cat left to be fixed in the area until they told me they just saw a kitten. 🤦‍♀️ When they anesthetized him, they noticed, clipped and cleaned this old wound on the back of his neck and gave him a shot of antibiotics. This is what happens when you don't neuter your male cats! Hopefully this meany-pants will become a lover very soon!

Save the date! Friday and Saturday, July 10th to 11th, the annual Tuscarora Nation Picnic and Field Days! Rumsey Ridge Rescue will be there with a booth and we are going to have some fantastic items to raffle off! You will love it, you have to stop by and see the dance competitions and the food and all the wonderful native-made jewelry and crafts. I bought the most beautiful silver ring a couple years ago. Please plan to stop by!
