Delta Alabama AHEC is offering two opportunities for students pursuing careers in healthcare: the AHEC Future Docs Program and the Alabama AHEC Scholars Program.
The AHEC Future Docs Program supports junior and senior undergraduate students, particularly those from disadvantaged communities, who aspire to become physicians. Participants receive support throughout the medical school preparation process, including MCAT test preparation, mock interviews, application advising, job shadowing, personal statement reviews, and networking and mentoring with healthcare professionals.
Applications for Future Docs are open now, with a deadline of August 24, 2026.
The Alabama AHEC Scholars Program is a two-year program for students currently enrolled in qualifying health professions programs who are interested in serving rural and medically under-resourced communities across Alabama. Scholars complete online training and team-based service learning while gaining professional development and networking opportunities, financial support, specialized certifications, leadership opportunities, and a nationally recognized AHEC digital badge.

The Alabama AHEC Scholars Program is part of a national initiative preparing future health professionals to serve rural and under-resourced communities. Through interprofessional learning, leadership development, and hands-on community experiences, Scholars collaborate with peers across Alabama, gain valuable workforce experience, and support the health of Alabamians statewide.

Eligible disciplines include Medicine (MD/DO), Dentistry, Clinical Psychology, Physician Assistant Studies, Nurse Practitioner programs, Pharmacy, Optometry, and Nurse Midwifery.
