Can you find the hog in the woods?

Since I've had an abysmal season hunting hogs on the delta this year and have no hog videos to show you, I'll show you this eight legged beast that tried to hitch a ride. She (or he) is in the final throes of death due to exposure to permethrin. I soak all of my outdoors cloths in it every six weeks or so. It took about 5 minutes for this tick to die; that includes me finding it, thinking to video it, and then determining that none of you will watch a video longer than a minute long because we all have the attention span of toddlers now.
P.s. I'm sorry if you feel creepy crawly now

It looks like we're going to have a lot of water in the Delta so just remember: If you can't pork it, duck it

Where are the hogs? This little racoon and I are wondering the same thing. If you have spent any time in the Mobile-Tensaw Delta this year looking for hogs you likely had less luck spotting hogs as you did at the beginning of last season. After a recent conversation with DCNR Biologist, Chris Nix, my theory was confirmed. "We had a whole month of the Delta being flooded," Chris said. High water events like last year's are basically the only thing that knocks a dent in the feral hog population. If they don't get out of the way of the water, they probably end up in the Gulf of Mexico, so the smart pigs likely moved inland. As they are prolific breeders with few predators, their numbers will bounce back... until the next flood. In the mean time, if you are hunting hogs, think about bringing an extra gun for squirrels, rabbits, and ducks (when that season starts, obviously).

This rifle will cut its teeth next season. This is a .458 SOCOM, which is a heavy .45 caliber bullet that was designed to be fired from a minimally modified AR-15 style rifle. Previously, I spoke of the modularity of the AR platform, this is a great example of that. The bottom half of this gun is the same bottom half of the rifle in the 300 Blackout video. This is one of my favorite attributes of the AR 15, a change in caliber is only two pin pulls away. After I have successfully hunted a few hogs with this rifle, I’ll come back around with more information… for now we’ll just knock down a steel plate.

I have plucked a handful of hogs from the woods with a handgun, using a G***k Model 40... which is chambered in 10mm... because that isn't confusing at all. There are only a few semiautomatic pistols that are more powerful than this handgun but they are usually more expensive and generally not viewed as reliable as a G***k. If I get my hands on a Desert Eagle chambered in 44 Magnum, I'll be sure to make a video. If you are planning on hunting with a handgun, practice. Then, practice some more. After that move your targets back and practice some more. And when you are tired of practicing with this gun, practice more, because when you have a big boar in your sights for the first time you will get an adrenaline dump, and accurately placing your shot while your hands are shaking is tough. These plates are at 50 yards out you are curious.

When I am asked what I hunt hogs with my knee-jerk answer is an AR-15 chambered in 300 Blackout. Why 300 Blackout? I like the ballistics for the typical ranges that I engage the hogs. Why an AR-15? Because Communists hate the AR-15 and , as everybody knows, feral hogs are Communists. Seriously though, I love the modularity. I know of no other firearm that is as customizable, user friendly, and relatively affordable as an AR patterned rifle. I built this rifle for my needs and it was not very difficult. More hogs have met their end from this rifle than from any other firearm I have used... And to go ahead and get political: This is as much a weapon of war as a Jeep Wrangler, they may look a lot like something that's seen a battlefield, but neither realistically has.

Like most mammals, hogs are thought to be dichromats, which is a fancy way to say red-green color blind. So, unless you are colorblind, these two pictures of my daughter's ball should look different; the left is trichromatic while the image to the right is dichromatic. The point being, as you make your plans to hunt hogs, your camouflage scheme isn't critically important as long as you just stay away from blue.
P.s. Your dog is a dichromat, so blue toys are generally easier for them to see when tossed in a green, grassy lawn.
