A little rain couldn’t dampen the spirit of the day.

The Mobile County Annual Earth Day celebration at Chickasabogue Park was a success. Despite morning showers, visitors enjoyed rock climbing, face painting, an electric vehicle showcase and live music.

As Mobile County Commission President Connie Hudson noted, protecting natural resources is a shared responsibility. The event highlighted this commitment by awarding Love Your Community grants to six local teams dedicated to neighborhood beautification.

A huge thank you to partners Keep Mobile Beautiful, Gulf Coast RC&D and the community for helping keep Mobile County thriving.

Stay tuned for more event photos.

Today is Global Recycling Day! The Mobile County Recycling Center, located on Hitt Road, takes most recycled items. We can all do our part to be good stewards of our local, natural resources. Think about all the items you discard (don't forget the pizza boxes!) and discover ways to reduce, reuse and recycle. Our environment depends on each of us doing our part. Check out the new glass pulverizer at the Mobile County Recycling Center.

Funded by a $200,000 grant from the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM), the equipment can process 500,000 pounds of glass each year, turning old bottles into safe, smooth sand for use in Mobile County projects.

The best part? No more color sorting. Residents can now drop off clear, green, and amber glass in a single bin. It's the only free glass recycling in Mobile County.

The recycling center is owned by the Mobile County Commission and operated by Goodwill Gulf Coast.

Bring your bottles to 7450 Hitt Road to help Mobile County keep glass out of the landfill.
