We can’t wait to represent Special Olympics Alabama in volleyball at the Special Olympics USA Games!

Bump, set, spike - and so much more! Special Olympics volleyball athletes bring intensity, synergy, and pure joy to every match, proving that the best teams are built on trust and a whole lot of heart.

Special Olympics offers both team-based and individual skills competitions for volleyball, providing athletes and Unified Partners a great opportunity to compete on the court.

We're proud to welcome them to Minnesota, thanks to our official volleyball sponsor Wells Fargo. They’re serving up essential support to build strong, inclusive communities, and that dedication is a powerful force for good.

Wells Fargo’s partnership is at the heart of the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games, helping us create life changing experiences where every champion can shine.

Please join me in wishing Team Alabama the very best as they compete. Mobile County is cheering you on. Bring home the gold!

🎉 What a way to kick off State Summer Games! 🎉

The Mobile Area Special Olympics team had an incredible first day in Troy as we celebrated the start of the 2026 State Summer Games with an unforgettable Opening Ceremonies.

We are especially proud of Vincent Dennis, who had the honor of leading everyone in the Special Olympics Athlete Oath: “Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.” It was a special moment that perfectly captured the spirit of these Games.

Our athletes are excited, energized, and ready to give their best as competition begins tomorrow. Thank you to all of the families, coaches, volunteers, and supporters who make these opportunities possible.

💙💛 Good luck to all of our athletes as they take the field, court, track, and pool tomorrow. Mobile is proud of you!

🏅 Congratulations to Coach Rene' Babischkin McElroy 🏅

Tonight at the Special Olympics Alabama State Summer Games Opening Ceremony, Coach Rene McElroy was honored with the prestigious **Spirit of Special Olympics Alabama Award**.

For more than two decades, Rene has demonstrated what it truly means to live the mission of Special Olympics. As a special education teacher and coach at Theodore High School for 22 years, she created opportunities for athletes to grow, compete, and succeed. Even after retiring in 2025, her commitment never slowed. Instead, she immediately launched the Special Olympics program at McGill-Toolen Catholic High School, where athletes qualified for State Games in the program’s very first year.

Rene’s impact extends far beyond Mobile. She has coached, chaperoned, and supported countless athletes at State Games and has represented Team Alabama at four Special Olympics USA Games. She served as Head Coach in both Seattle and Orlando and will once again lead Team Alabama as Golf Head Coach at the 2026 USA Games in Minneapolis.

Her nomination perfectly captured why she is so deserving of this honor:

*"Rene inspires everyone around her—athletes, families, volunteers, and fellow coaches—through her tireless advocacy, compassion, and belief in inclusion. She mentors new volunteers, builds sustainable programs, and leads by example with humility and heart. Rene McElroy does not simply support Special Olympics Alabama—she embodies its mission."*

We are incredibly proud to have Rene as part of the Mobile Area Special Olympics family. Her dedication, leadership, and love for our athletes have touched countless lives, and this recognition is a testament to the impact she continues to make every day.

Please join us in congratulating Coach Rene McElroy on this well-deserved honor! 💙💛
