"Empowering Youth Development for a Resilient Gulf Coast," is scheduled for December 17 at 10 AM at the National Maritime Museum of the Gulf of Mexico (155 N Water St, Mobile, AL 36602).

This event will feature United Way President & CEO Justine Bixler, who will share insights into the organization’s transformative work in Youth Development and its impact on the region's future.

The presentation will highlight The Basics Southwest Alabama, a program launched in October 2022 to support early childhood development during the critical first five years of life. This initiative equips parents, caregivers, and families with evidence-based tools to promote the social, emotional, and cognitive growth of children, laying the foundation for a vibrant and resilient community.

Bixler will discuss the program's growth since its inception, the partnerships that have amplified its reach, and the intersection of healthcare, poverty, and education in ensuring quality care for families. She will also explore how early investments in children can break generational cycles, improve long-term outcomes, and contribute to the economic and social vitality of Mobile.
