The Peninsula of Mobile

The Peninsula of Mobile Follow to learn more! The Peninsula is approximately five miles long and three miles wide at its widest point. The Peninsula is Mobile's Gateway to Nature.

A non-profit organization supporting low impact re-development throughout Mobile’s unique coastal community, specifically along Dauphin Island Parkway south of I-10 between Dog River and Mobile Bay. The Peninsula of Mobile is a geographic area of Mobile, Alabama located along Dauphin Island Parkway (Hwy 163) bounded on the north by I-10, on the south and west by Dog River , and on the east by Mob

ile Bay. The Peninsula is a racially and economically diverse community consisting of 11,420 people with an average income of $38,741 (2010 Census). It was annexed into the City of Mobile in the 1940’s with the success of Brookley Air Field which closed in 1964. Four decades later, Highway 163/DIP was rerouted around the Theodore Industrial Canal essentially converting the Parkway into a dead end road. In addition to being bounded on three sides by water, the area is crisscrossed with other bodies of water, including Perch and Rabby Creeks along with Robinson Bayou. It's wetlands and waterways provide habitat for a diverse population of wildlife and marine life ranging from alligators and eagles to manatees and turtles. The area's natural beauty offers wonderful recreational opportunities including fishing, powerboating and sailing, canoeing and kayaking, birdwatching and cycling.

FUNDING AWARDED - We are proud to announce that The Peninsula of Mobile has secured approximately $150,000 in grant funding from the Gulf Coast Environmental Engagement Center (GCEEC) to support our Pocket Beach Pilot Program! 🌾🌊

This grant will be used to develop a cost-share initiative to make participation in this living shoreline project more attainable for waterfront property owners along the Peninsula’s bayfront.

Through our partnership with Mobile Bay National Estuary Program, the Pocket Beach Shoreline Restoration Program will help reduce erosion, strengthen coastal resilience, improve habitat for fish and wildlife, and protect the future of Mobile Bay for generations to come.

Thank you to The University of South Alabama and the Dauphin Island Sea Lab, founders of the Gulf Coast Environmental Engagement Center (GCEEC), for considering our proposal!

We are incredibly grateful for the partners working with us to turn this vision of long-term environmental investment into reality and so excited to continue moving this work forward for our community. 🙌

Good luck today, Sailors! ⛵️

The Dauphin Island Regatta marks its 66th year as a defining tradition of sailing Mobile Bay, bringing generations together through a shared spirit of competition and love for being out on the water.

The Peninsula of Mobile is proud to sponsor this year’s race and support the traditions that keep our coastal community connected to the bay. 🌊

Earth Day is a reminder that WE are the stewards of this precious planet that we are blessed to call home. It is our responsibility to cherish and preserve it.

On the Peninsula, this looks like restoring the coastlines along the western shore of Mobile Bay, introducing green infrastructure through low-impact development methods, and supporting nature-based recreation for citizens to truly connect with our ecosystem and see the beauty of our waterfront first-hand.

This work takes coordination, persistence, and partners who believe in doing it right. Thank you for doing your part in making this corner of the Earth stronger, healthier, and more resilient.

The Perch Creek Parks Preserve is taking shape, and now it’s time for your voice to help shape the future of parks and public spaces across our community!

Do you want sand volleyball courts on the Bay? Passive learning stations tucked into nature trails? More places for biking, birdwatching, kayaking, fishing, sailing, or simply soaking up the sun?

How should nature and recreation coexist here? What experiences matter most to you and your family?

Take a few minutes to complete the survey and help guide the next chapter of the Peninsula’s parks, access, and community spaces.

The survey closes this Friday, April 24th, so don’t wait!

From adventure to relaxation—what will you do?

If you live on or frequent the Peninsula of Mobile, we encourage you to help shape the future of a very exciting project in the area. Our survey for the Perch Creek Preserve Park District closes today, so please take a few moments to share your feedback: https://forms.office.com/r/YPTDDEYxVs

Over the past several years, we’ve preserved nearly 190 acres of waterfront property along Perch Creek, and our vision is to create a connected network of parks that expands public access to these incredible natural resources. Community feedback is a critical part of that process, and your input will help guide how these spaces are designed and used for years to come. 🌊
